🦸🏽‍♀️ The fourth shero in our Voice of Change series was the big-hearted procectrees Serawit Teketel “Cherry”, who has dedicated her life to supporting some of the most vulnerable people in Ethiopia.

Once having caught a glimpse of the horrifying hidden world of the Ethiopian street sex-workers, Serawit began her lifelong quest of bringing positive change to their lives. She started her non-profit organization - Ellilta Products - in 1995.

🧑🏾‍🤝‍🧑🏿 Since then Ellilta has been a loving and accepting community to some of the most marginalized people found in Ethiopia. Over the years 1600 women have received rehabilitation and job opportunities. Ellilta trains them how to create artisan jewellery, clothing and other fashion products which are then sold in global and local markets.

Serwait Teketel “Cherry”. She is a founder of Ellilta - a non-profit organization, supporting exploited individuals through relationship-based recovery.

Cherry started Ellilta in 1995 after she encountered and befriended a female sex-worker from the red-light district of Addis Ababa. Since then Ellilta has been a loving and accepting community to some of the most marginalized people found in Ethiopia, and our shero is a heart of this community as she has dedicated her life to supporting the most vulnerable and making a difference around her. .

Being driven by her passion to introduce a comfortable teaching-learning method, Rahel started to produce high-quality learning materials, including illustrations, puzzles, and storybooks. Constant communication with teachers and parents as well as her strong belief in playful learning help her company make a real and tangible impact.

For her pronounced contribution to children’s education in her country, she has been elected as a laureate from Ethiopia out of more than 3,000 African contestants by the Women by Africa Initiative

“What I learnt from life is that the most hurting thing and at the same time a key to success is not what people say to you but what you say to yourself.”

Being only 12 years old, Hamere was rejected by her own family for standing out from the crowd. At the age of 16 she left her parent’s house and slept for one year on the ground in her rented flat, having just 1 dollar per month for food. But she never lost hope and confidence. And now she is famous for organizing popular family festivals on the main square of her hometown, Addis Ababa, with more than 10,000 participants.

Yesterday the Voice of Change radio series has been launched!
🎙️ Reach for Change Ethiopia and Maed with the support of the institute will shine light on powerful stories of female entrepreneurs who are challenging gender norms and inequalities in Ethiopia.

🦸🏾‍♀️ Our first hero was the venture wizard Tigist Getachew, who co-founded ARAYA Venture Lab in a bid to create new perspectives and find home-grown solutions. ’s story is a powerful message of resilience, determination and never giving up.
