I love outside! I spent yesterday with Mercedes-Benz South Africa at the The Luxurious Marble Circus
Mercedes’ history was gloriously displayed in the lush green gardens under the spring sun

This is where it all started, the Mercedes-Benz South Africa Benz-Patent-Motorwagen.
The world’s first car with an internal combustion engine, and arguably one of the coolest things I’ve ever driven. The story behind this is so incredible

Unlike other experimental designs of the era, Benz did not just add an engine to a horse-drawn carriage; he designed the entire chassis and drivetrain around the engine from the start.

In August 1888, Karl’s wife, Bertha Benz, undertook the first long-distance road trip by car. She drove an improved Model III variant 106 km (66 miles) from Mannheim to Pforzheim with her two teenage sons.

Her successful trip proved the viability of the automobile to a skeptical public and launched the dawn of personal motorized transport.

The fastest car I’ve ever had the pleasure of commanding.
The Mercedes-Benz South Africa AMG GT63 S E-Performance is a 600kW 1420Nm prowler that’ll humble pretty much everything on the road. I’ve never seen R4.2m move that quickly, to this day I’ve never experienced anything like it.

“I know my car” turns out I didn’t! 😗 what I thought were core personality traits were actually flaws that needed addressing. I recently fitted Continental Tyre SA SportContact 7 tyres on my car and the biggest improvement so far is that they doubled my range and halved my fuel consumption. I can finally put the power down! There’s lots to explore, because these tyres have made a world of a difference mate, so excited 👏🏾

I took the GR Corolla out on the test track for shakedown laps and it became clear that:

have gone to extraordinary lengths to make this car special. Forged intervals, front and rear LSD’s and revised suspension geometry for impressive mechanical grip and cornering ability.

It’s playful , and unusual. They took an ordinary mass-market hatch, give it a disproportionately serious drivetrain, widened it, strengthened it, fitted big brakes and proper differentials, and retained enough normal-car practicality that you can use it every day.

And there’s another interesting distinction within Toyota itself. The GR Yaris is the smaller, more purpose-built little weapon, while the GR Corolla is the grown-up interpretation of the same idea: five doors, more room, longer wheelbase, but still the G16E-GTS three-cylinder and GR-FOUR philosophy.

I’ve been handed the keys to the Toyota South Africa GR Corolla (~R1 010 700) and there is much to be grateful for.
It sits in a rare spot in today’s automotive landscape, as one of the last rally-bred hot hatches on the market. GAZOO Racing has massaged this 1.6L 3-cylinder to produce 210kW & 400Nm - quite impressive for the engine size. GAZOO Racing have a fleet of these doing circuits across the country, and rightfully so! The revised suspension offers impressive turn-in, competence at high speed and inspiring mechanical grip. It’s a fun little thing!
