🚨 “Amharas cannot be expected to abide by any outcome of a negotiations process from which they think they are excluded,” Tewodrose Tirfe (Amhara Association of America) said to .
On November 2nd 2022, the African Union hosted a so-called “peace talk” between the Ethiopian Federal Government & Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). This occurred in Pretoria, South Africa & was mediated by & other African leaders.
Shortly after, the Amhara Association of America tweeted saying:
“Welkait is being administered by Gondar. Raya is being administered by Wollo. We have lost too many innocent lives & too many patriots to lose Welkait & Raya again. That is not going to happen. That is a red line for Amharas. AAA would like to reiterate that any agreement or process that fails to recognize Welkait and Raya as Amhara will not be acceptable by Amharas & as such will not bring lasting peace."
The Amhara people are making it crystal clear that we do not accept the results of these “peace-talks” in South Africa. Especially since Amharas were not represented during the meetings.
One particular portion of the agreement that should be a concern, is section 6. There it says: “We have agreed to implement transitional measures that include the restoration of constitutional order in the Tigray region, a framework for the settlement of political differences, and a Transitional Justice Policy framework to ensure accountability, truth,
reconciliation & healing.”
If ’s administration has any intent to recognize the previous regional constitution of Tigray, they should remember that there is absolutely nothing that will remove the Amhara people from their ancestral lands of Raya & Welkait.
