Call for the Ethiopian Government to Designate the White Army as a Terrorist Organization

We are calling the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to formally recognize the White Army as a terrorist organization. Over recent years, the White Army has engaged in repeated acts of armed violence, targeted attacks on anyuak civilians in gambella region of western Ethiopia, the group composed mostly of nuer refugees from south Sudan are disrupting law and order in the regions of the peaceful people. These actions have caused widespread loss of life, displacement, and destruction of property, threatening both peace and national security.
Evidence indicates that the White Army operates as a paramilitary force outside state control both in south Sudan and in gambella region, employing intimidation, murder, and destruction to advance its agenda. Its activities directly contravene Ethiopian law, including provisions against terrorism, organized armed groups, and crimes against humanity.
By formally designating the White Army as a terrorist organization, the Ethiopian government would:
Enhance legal accountability for individuals and leaders involved in violent acts.
Enable law enforcement and military operations to more effectively prevent attacks on civilians.
Signal a strong commitment to peace and security, deterring other groups from similar violent mobilization.
This designation would align Ethiopia with international standards on counter-terrorism and protect its citizens from ongoing threats posed by organized armed groups operating outside the law.
