For Immediate Release
The Anywaa community wishes to alert the national and international public of a deeply concerning security threat facing our people. Credible reports indicate that the GPAA Chief Administrator has recently carried out targeted mobilization activities in Jebel Boma, marwo and Vertet with the intention of launching attacks against Anywaa families returning to their ancestral homeland of Awittballa Payam (Raat) in Pochalla South County.
For years, Awittballa Payam has remained deserted due to insecurity. Today, as our people begin returning home in hope of rebuilding their lives, restoring dignity, and fostering peaceful coexistence, it is unacceptable that their safety is once again being jeopardized.
We call upon:
The Government of South Sudan to urgently intervene and ensure the protection of civilians in Awittballa Payam;
Human rights organizations, peace partners, and the international community to monitor the situation and advocate for the safety of the returning population;
All Anywaa globally to remain united, vigilant, and supportive of efforts to secure peace and stability in Pochalla South County.
The right of every community to return and resettle in their homeland without fear must be upheld and protected. Any attempts to destabilize this peaceful process should be condemned in the strongest terms.
