UROR PEACE TALKS KICK OFF BETWEEN CHIEKUMAI AND CHIECHAR / 06 SEPTEMBER 2026

Peace talks between the Chiekumai and Chiechar sub-clans in Uror officially kicked off today, with the first session successfully concluded.

The dialogue is expected to resume tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m., as representatives from the two sides continue discussions aimed at addressing their longstanding grievances and finding a peaceful way forward.

The peace initiative comes following a recent revenge attack that claimed lives, amid years of tensions, grievances, and cycles of revenge killings between the two communities.

The commencement of the dialogue is being viewed as a positive step toward reconciliation, forgiveness, healing, and lasting peace.

Community members and leaders are being encouraged to embrace dialogue, listen to one another, and work together to break the cycle of revenge and promote peaceful coexistence between the two sub-clans.

The continuation of the talks tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. will provide another opportunity for both sides to discuss their concerns, address their differences, and explore solutions that can contribute to lasting peace in Uror.

According to information received from the office of the Commissioner of Nyirol County, Hon. Peter Gatkuoth Koang Dhuor under the leadership of the SPLM-IO, he emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian intervention for returned IDPs in Nyirol County. He stated that many families are facing severe hardship after homes and shelters were burned, boreholes destroyed, and properties looted. The affected communities urgently need food, emergency shelter, clean water, medical assistance, and protection support as the rainy season approaches.

The Commissioner is calling upon humanitarian partners, including UNMISS, UNOCHA, ICRC, and MSF, to conduct rapid assessments and provide immediate support to save lives and protect vulnerable families.

Rebel commissioner of Akobo County, John Wiyual L*l, has ordered more than a hundred soldiers to es**rt UNMISS personnel as they leave their base following its closure.

There are serious concerns that the es**rt may have a hidden agenda, including possible plans to attack UNMISS during transit and seize their vehicles and armored equipment.

UNMISS has been urged to take note of the situation and to reject any es**rt arrangement that may compromise the safety of its personnel and assets.
