The Contemporary Lives selection offers documentaries that shake consciences, spark debate, and show us contradictions and sometimes opposing points of view through powerful stories that speak to us of violence, oppression, and suffering, but also of life, desire, self-determination, and rebellion. Films that range from geopolitics, human rights, climate urgency, competitiveness, and the search for identity, crucial issues that are always presented through the valuable lens of universal life stories. Reflections on the community that invite us to take up the baton in an act of solidarity and collective responsibility.

Things That Can Ruin a Picnic—a short film written and directed by and developed by the Sons of Lumière — has been honoured with an Honorable Mention at the Coproduction Forum 🏅

The jury consisted of Juliette Canon (), Alessia Acone (IFFR Pro – International Film Festival Rotterdam), and Carla Fotea (Microfilm Romania).

👶Things That Can Ruin a Picnic tells the story of a thirty-something couple’s dream picnic date, which begins to unravel when the topic of having children arises.

European Short Pitch is an annual mentoring programme organised by P.O.V. – Push Other Visions. It aims to identify and support emerging European talent in developing their short films, while fostering co-production and collaboration among professionals across the continent.

Since 2007, European Short Pitch has supported over 350 writers and directors in the development of their short film projects. Many of these films have gone on to receive international acclaim and have been screened at festivals such as Cannes, Berlinale, Locarno, Sundance, and IFFR.
The 2025 edition of European Short Pitch will culminate in the Coproduction Forum—a pitching and networking event held this year in Leiden, the Netherlands, from 2 to 3 June, in collaboration with the .
