IDA ELINA’s single POHJOLAN NEITO (Maiden of the North) OUT on digital platforms 🌟

With Pohjolan neito, Ida Elina continues her work with Kalevala-inspired themes, focusing on one of the epic’s most striking and tragic characters.

The piece is built on a five-string kantele melody, first composed during a quiet Sunday evening. This simple motif became the structural core of the composition, around which the rest of the music gradually took shape.

The arrangement explores the full range of the kantele. The vocal parts are all performed by Ida Elina herself, forming a layered choral texture that becomes most prominent in the final section. Additional elements, such as bell-like tones and low percussive sounds, support the overall expression, while the foundation remains in the kantele and voice.

Let's celebrate Kalevala Day with IDA ELINA's new song MAAILMAN SYNTY (THE WORLD BEGINS) on digital platforms.

Ida Elina: "This is probably the most experimental piece I’ve ever made. There aren’t really clear lyrics or a strong beat — it’s built around one main melody, layers of kantele, and almost one hundred vocal tracks. I wanted to create the feeling of a world being born just through sound.

You’ll hear concert kantele, five-string kantele, and lots and lots of voices. Most of them are mine, but the deepest tones were recorded by my producer Tuomas Aukio. All together, the voices feel like strings, wind, or moving water — something ancient and powerful."

Bafe’s Factory has signed IDA ELINA, a Finnish singer-songwriter and kantele artist known for her bold fusion of Nordic tradition with modern pop and cinematic soundscapes. A graduate of the Sibelius Academy, she has developed the internationally acclaimed "slap style" kantele technique and has performed in more than 20 countries across Europe, Asia, and North America. She is also an award-winning film composer. ✨
