Happy New Year! 🎄

In December, everyone has something to say to summarize the year. We'll try to be brief.

What is Panzerdog?
It's not just a company that made Tacticool and keeps supporting it. It's a team of people who love games, who are eager to grow professionally, think globally, and share their experience with anyone willing to enter the world of game development. As trivial as it may sound, realizing those things was our main profit this year.

For the next one, there are already so many plans. We will:
• Expand our team, with new openings coming in January.
• Tell you more about our expertise through a series of articles already in the works.
• And of course, make Tacticool even better.

Don't be afraid to set cool and daring goals in 2022. With reliable people and some optimism, you can do anything!

In many workplaces, you can often hear the terms “hard skills” and “soft skills”.

Hard skills are more or less straightforward. These are technical and practical abilities that can be easily checked through a test or an exam. They are confirmed by diplomas and certificates. For instance, the knowledge of programming languages or targeting tools. Any employer can evaluate your hard skills based on your CV.

Soft skills are difficult to measure in an interview because they gradually unfold during the work process. They include communication skills, creativity, the ability to persuade others, and working in a team. Even though there is no direct relation to any specialty, they often define how well a person fits a certain position.

A Harvard University study https://www.nationalsoftskills.org/the-soft-skills-disconnect/ proves that 85% of job success comes from soft skills and only 15% from hard skills.

We asked our team leads what soft skills they consider the most important. Read their answers in the images.

Of course, soft skills do not guarantee success in any area on their own. You need to train all your muscles at once. Try to recall situations where you acted like a charismatic negotiator or an expert in your area.

Time to Gather Stones: PlayPort Fest Summary

What was it all about?

The festival was the first stage in implementing the roadmap made at the strategic session last month. It was organized by the Foundation for Creative Industries Креспектива and the Kaliningrad Region Entrepreneurship Support Fund Фонд "Центр поддержки предпринимательства Калининградской области" — with the participation of education, business and government representatives.

One of the festival goals is to support and develop a strong gamedev community that will be open to both beginners and industry experts.

So what was the result?

PlayPort Fest has become an excellent gathering place for several generations. Those who wrote their first games in the 90s were there together with 10-year-old programmers who create games in Scratch.

We met, got to know each other and realized that Kaliningrad is interested in video games. People want to get into the industry, there are unique experts, many indie developers and successful studios.

About Panzerdog

It was important for us to support such a unique event. We did a great job in the showcase zone, talked about the game and even set up a challenge for new players. Those brave enough to play Tacticool on a big TV won official merch and delicious prizes. We welcome you in our shooter community 👋

Also, festival guests got an opportunity to snap a few pictures in our photo zone with a cool Beemer straight from the 90s.

And most importantly, Panzerdog speakers Roman Malakhov, Maria Kruglova and Valery Maximov shared their experience from the stage — and hopefully motivated young specialists to grow and develop creative games. Our doors are always open for new talents 🤓

We will continue to participate in PlayPort initiatives and offer our ideas for collaborations.

Tacticool is featured among the best shooters of 2021 on Android, according to Android Central

Mobile games have taken a large chunk of the global video game market, and their popularity is growing every day. Thanks to the leaps in technical capabilities of smartphones, mobile game developers can ensure their users get only the best gameplay experience.

Every day, around 1200-1400 new games appear in the stores. Most will not survive long, but each of them draws attention away from their more successful counterparts, even if just a little. With this in mind, we are very proud to stand side by side with the titans of the genre.

This is a follow-up on the conversation with Panzerdog PR Manager Maria Kruglova. Read the beginning in the previous post.

— So, Masha, why do we do so many gamedev public activities in Kaliningrad?

— Kaliningrad is the city we want to live in, it’s where we want to work and grow professionally. Panzerdog is an example of a successful gamedev company. So we recognize that growth is tied to cooperation and support — that’s why we want to see a lot of locals in game development.

We are happy to see the progress of the local studios. Professionals move here from all over the country. Cool games are created. We participate in themed events, shake up the local community and attract even more people. That’s amazing!

— Yeah, sounds good. But doesn’t it look like we’re patting ourselves on the back?

— I don’t think so. We sincerely wish to set a good example to other studios in Kaliningrad and small Russian towns. Moreover, it’s a great opportunity to reach out to a large number of people who dream of game development but don't know how to start.

We talked to Panzerdog PR Manager Maria Kruglova and asked her about the social activities the company does in Kaliningrad, Russian Federation. It’s where our main office is located.

— Masha, how exactly do we participate in the local social life?

— We take part in education activities. For example, we held a Unity game development course for students. As a result, a couple of guys got a job in Panzerdog, some others now work in friendly studios or freelance.

Also, we take on the role of experts on projects review at the Center for the Development of Talented Children, as well as arrange career guidance tours for students to our office etc.

— Seems like we are heavily involved in raising a new generation of developers in Russia.

— Yeah, we also support gamedev events in town such as Global Game Jam. We helped the hosts manage it before the pandemic shut everything down.

— But why do we do all this?

Who are we?

Panzerdog was founded in Kaliningrad (Russia) in 2016, and since 2017 its head office is located in Helsinki. Two years later, we became a part of MY.GAMES, a community of dozens of game developers worldwide.

Our multinational team includes over 40 game development enthusiasts. The most experienced of us have been working in the game industry for more than 10 years.

Currently Panzerdog is developing its first project – online mobile shooter Tacticool. It is a multiplayer top-down shooter with action-packed 5v5 matches lasting 3-4 minutes.
