Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United UEFA Europa League pots, confirmed teams and league phase draw date.
Here we take a look at which pot Tottenham will be in for the 2024/25 Europa League campaign and when the draw for the competition is made.

Tottenham will be among the favourites to triumph in the 2024/25 Europa League. Qualifying for UEFA's second club competition as a result of finishing the Premier League season in fifth, Ange Postecoglou's team will enter a rather different Europa League from September.

Having previously seen teams split into groups of four during the group phase of the competition, from next season teams that qualify for the main stage of the new-look Europa League will instead compete in a 36-team league. Facing eight different teams, the top eight advance directly to the round of 16 and the teams from ninth to 24th will compete in the knockout round play-offs for a place in the final 16.

All eyes will very much be on the new format in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League. Spurs are already one of 13 teams confirmed for Europa League league phase, with fellow Premier League club Manchester United joining them in there after beating rivals Man City in the FA Cup final.

Other teams to have already qualified for the league phase include: Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hoffenheim, Roma, Lazio, Nice, Lyon, AZ and Porto. As a result of winning Wednesday's Europa Conference League final, Olympiacos will play in next season's Europa League.

There is still a possibility that Eintracht Frankfurt could be competing in the Champions League from September onwards, however. A victory for Borussia Dortmund in Saturday's Champions League final against Real Madrid would see their fellow German side elevated to Europe's premier competition in 2024/25.

Spurs will discover their Europa League opponents when the draw for the league phase is made on Friday, August 30. To establish the fixtures, all 36 teams will be split into four pots of nine based on coefficient rankings.

Cristian Romero makes statement on Tottenham future and praises Ange Postecoglou.

Cristian Romero has stated that he is not thinking about leaving Tottenham Hotspur and believes he has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career under Ange Postecoglou.

The 26-year-old World Cup winner was named as one of Postecoglou's vice-captains at the start of the season and responded with one of his most consistent campaigns since arriving at the club from Atalanta in 2021. Romero played 34 times for Spurs over the campaign, scoring five times from the back and picked up just one suspension - three games for a red card against Chelsea - and only missed two Premier League games through injury.

The Argentine was a guest on DSports’ Cómo Te Va and his interview was reported on by Olé in which the Argentina international admitted he is not thinking about leaving the club despite the odd transfer link away.

"The truth is that I’m fine. For now I’m not thinking about that [a transfer], I’m thinking about preparing myself these days to get to the national team in the best way possible, which is the next step I have," he said. "The things that come up at the moment are obviously always analysed but I’m not thinking about the future, I’m thinking about the national team. Now that I have the Copa America, I will always try to take the national team to the top and then we will see what happens."
Romero, who has three years left on his contract, said he is loving life at the club and had praise for Postecoglou's impact and progress made in his first season at Tottenham even if the group did not quite meet the expectations they had set for themselves in finishing fifth.

Hanifa Abubakar: Gov Yusuf vows to carry out death sentence on killer teacher.

Five months after a school teacher, Abdulmalik Tanko was sentenced to death for the killing of a five-year-old pupil, Hanifa Abubakar, in Kano, Governor Abba Yusuf has vowed to ensure the ex*****on of the convict.

The governor said the sentence prescribed by the court must be carried out.

Yusuf spoke during an event to commemorate the 2024 International Children’s Day Celebration in Kano.

A Kano State High Court had sentenced Tanko and his accomplice, Hashimu Ishyaku, to death by hanging after finding them guilty of Hanifa’s murder.

Yusuf said ensuring that the convicted murderers get the “desired justice they deserve would in no small measure serve as a deterrent to those who are planning evil against children”.

According to him, the state is on the verge of declaring a ‘state of emergency on education’ to ensure quality education for children in the state.

“When we say state of emergency, we mean holistic approach such as free education, renovation of dilapidated schools and infrastructure, among others, to ensure quality education,” he said.

The governor also promised that in no distant time, free school feeding and free uniforms will be provided for school children from primary one to three in the state.

Earlier, the State’s Commissioner for Women, Children and Disabled, Hajiya Aisha Lawan, commended the governor for his initiatives, including free education for primary and secondary students as well as slashing of tuition fees by 50 per cent for tertiary students.

On her part, the Speaker of the Children’s Parliament in Kano State, Hauwa Ibrahim, called on the state government to implement the Child Right Act for the wellbeing of children in the state.
