Faceless will have its long awaited international premiere at Tampere Film Festival 2026, one of the world’s leading short film festivals and an Academy Award–qualifying event with a long-standing reputation for artistic rigour and cultural relevance.

Selected from thousands of submissions, Faceless is the only Australian film in the International Competition this year — and the only film in the competition co-directed by multiple directors, a small but meaningful win for the collaborative ethos at the heart of the project.

We’re thrilled to see the film travel into an international context that champions bold, politically engaged storytelling, and proud to have this collaboration represented on such a respected global stage.

March 2026, we’re coming. 🇫🇮

Much love,

Dogmilk Films

For an evening of films, food, and gathering, Dogmilk, and co-present CONG/SPIRACY.

Building on Dogmilk’s Degustations format, Bali-based q***r collective QAMERAD curated a night of film, with Nongkrong hosting conversations and food.

-

CONG/SPIRACY reclaims the weaponised term cong—Indonesia’s slur for q***r bodies—and twists it into a rallying cry, a spell, a whisper passed between co-conspirators of the otherwise. This program gathers films that dare to fabulate, to glitch, to haunt, and to mock the normative scripts that bind us. These are not polite films. They do not seek approval. Instead, they scheme in broad daylight—against heteropatriarchy, against state moralism, against the suffocating logic of respectability.

In the eyes of the state, q***rs are always already conspiring: spreading propaganda, corrupting youth, refusing assigned roles. But in the hands of these filmmakers, conspiracy becomes a site of collective creativity and care. Through lipstick-stained rituals, psychedelic karaoke battles, online weddings, and drag séances, these films build a shared language of subversion—one forged through camp, folklore, and phantasm.

✨ FACELESS ✨

Directed by William Jaka & Fraser Pemberton

Vote No.1 “FACELESS” and help send us to the AACTA’s. 🏆

We’re so grateful for the journey this film has taken us on thus far:

🏆 Best Live-Action Short (Dendy Award) – Sydney Film Festival 2025
🏆 AFTRS Craft Award – Music & Sound Design – Sydney Film Festival 2025
🏆 Emerging Australian Filmmaker Award – MIFF 2025
🎬 Official Selection – Melbourne International Film Festival (Accelerator Shorts)
🌿 Nominee – Uncle Jack Charles Award (MIFF)
🌟 Official Selection – Adelaide Film Festival 2025

Set on the Birrarung-Ga, Faceless is a dreamlike psychological drama where an Indigenous man moves through parallel worlds — rough-sleeper, aspiring actor, mining employee — exposing the fractures, resilience, and cultural truths at the heart of contemporary Australia.

We never imagined it would resonate so widely, and we’re honoured it’s now in contention for the AACTA Award for Best Short Film.

🗳️ To our friends and peers who are AACTA members: if the film speaks to you, we’d be deeply grateful for your support. Viewing + voting link is in our bio.

Voting closes at 11.59pm AEST on the 6th of October !

Thank you for helping us share this story.

Much love, ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

We’re thrilled to share that Faceless is now available for AACTA members to stream and vote!

This film means so much to us, taking 2 years to bring to life. If you or any friends & family are AACTA members, it’d mean the world to us if you voted for the film, or passed on the news to others who might!

Faceless is the directorial debut of Warlpiri filmmaker William Jaka, and the first collaborative effort between him and Fraser Pemberton. The team can’t wait to share the film with audiences internationally, and every vote contributes to that goal significantly!

‘Faceless follows an Indigenous man as he navigates three parallel realities; at once a rough-sleeper, an aspiring actor and the employee of a mining corporation. Can he find a place within Australian society or is he bound to remain an outsider in his own land?’

🏆 Winner of the Dendy Award for Best Live Action Short at the Sydney Film Festival

🎼 Recipient of the AFTRS Craft Award for Best Music and Sound Design

Sharing that ‘No Prior Opportunity’ will be playing at MIFF this year as part of the Footy Shorts Program.

“No Prior Opportunity follows Rhys Gilday, a man on the autism spectrum and his father Mick as we explore their unique relationship to the AFL Umpires.”

Come see the fabulous Rhys and Mick on the big screen. I’m sure you’ll fall in love, just as myself and all the crew did during the making of this. Everyone, stop yelling at the umpires, join Rhys!

Thanks to the team, I love you all.
