⚫️ Your favorite finnish power-trio is back with a new song: at least until the 6th of March. ‘Tinkerbell’ marks a certain departure, or arrival, or some other kinetic metaphor. It’s fast, it’s mean and it’s stripped from as much rock-fat as the band could trim.

”The whole arrangement came together quickly: a neck-breaking riff polluted by poppy melodicism and 90’s noise-rock aesthetics, but the fitting lyrics proved to be elusive. It felt like the song needed to say a lot, with no words to say it. That in itself eventually became the theme of the song and Tinkerbell seemed the appropriate choice as champion of silence. It’s a song about nothing! ‘George Costanza’ would have been just as good a title.” says Marco Menestrina.

”An article I read about the multi-exposure photography of Pelle Cass got my gears turning for how to achieve a similar result on video. The plan was to elevate a subject as aesthetically mundane as three dudes thrashing about with their instruments into something unexpected and visually striking. Making something out of nothing seems to be a recurring gimmick of ours.” Menestrina elaborates.

Svart Records julkaisee Sielun Veljien L’Amourhan 40-vuotisjuhlapainoksen tammikuussa!

⚫️ Sielun Veljien vuonna 1985 julkaistua kolmatta albumia L’Amourhaa pidetään yhtyeen läpimurtoalbumina. Vuonna 1983 Hassisen Koneessa aiemmin soittaneet Ismo Alanko ja Jukka Orma olivat rumpali Alf Forsmanin ja basisti Jouko Hohkon kanssa saaneet alati kasvavaa suosiota kolmella ensimmäisellä albumillaan (Veljet, 1983, Lapset,1983 ja Hei Soturit, 1984) sekä keränneet huomiota shamanistisilla keikoillaan, m***a neljännellä albumillaan L’Amourha yhtye räjäytti potin. Albumista tuli yhtyeen kaupallisesti menestynein julkaisu ja asema suomirockin ykköskastissa oli viimeistään sementoitu.

Svart Records kunnioittaa tämän klassikon 40-vuotista taivalta julkaisemalla L’Amourhan uudelleen masteroidun juhlavinyylipainoksen 23.1.2026, hitusen virallisen juhlapäivän jälkimainingeissa. Albumin mukaan on koostettu liitevihko, joka sisältää kappaleiden sanoitukset, toimittaja Ari Väntäsen tekemän Jouko Hohkon ja Ismo Alangon vastikään tehdyn haastattelun levyn tiimoilta sekä Stefan Bremerin ottamia kuvia L’Amourhan julkaisuvuodelta 1985.

Svart Recordsin verkkokaupasta on nyt tilattavissa ennakkoon L’Amourhan rajoitettu 200 kappaleen vinyylipainos, joka sisältää replikan samana vuonna ilmestyneestä Toiset on luotuja kulkemaan/Kanoottilaulu 7” -singlestä. Saatavilla on myös läpinäkyvä lime sekä musta LP-versio, sekä erillinen 100 kappaleen rajoitettu musta vinyylipainos Toiset on luotuja kulkemaan/Kanoottilaulu 7” -singlestä.

KISSA live at Rock Alley Studio!

⚫️ Rock Alley is a recording studio founded in Hamina in the summer of 2023. Joni Ekman & Koira, Rokets, and Kissa, who visited the studio last year and released their albums on Svart Records this year, returned to the studio on the first weekend of August to perform live. Svart is now releasing these sweaty performances from the old barn in the yard of an idyllic cottage in Hamina on its YouTube channel weekly. Sakke Vänttinen, who runs the studio, has this to say about the place and the project:

”The space was converted from an old barn into a studio with the help of family and friends between 2021 and 2023. The idea for the Rock Alley Live concept was born in the fall of 2024, and the first performers were selected from bands on Svart’s roster. The songs were recorded and filmed over the weekend, one band per day. It worked very well, so we will continue with this.”

The third video of the instalment, featuring Kissa, was released today. The entire rock show featuring all three bands will be available on digital platforms on Friday, October 10th.

Cleaning Women’s fifth album Washer out today!

⚫️ Washer is Cleaning Women’s fifth album. It started from scratch with the construction of the new Vacuum Sound Space studio back in 2020. Things took time, material was created and discarded, arrangements were edited and the form of the content needed work. All instruments are still homemade, but as the band searched for a new sound, even the responsibilities within the band were rearranged. Percussionist CW03 sometimes clung to the stringed instruments and laundryman CW04 also scooped the rhythm section with his robotic hands, still hitting the melodic pins of a clothes horse with one limb. CW01wove a web together with his electric Viola de Gamba/Cello hybrid and his coffee-bean-can-bouzouki.

On the other hand, the whole five-year period has not been spent just working on the album. Since the previous album, Intersubjectivity, the band has also composed film music on many fronts, including the Oscar-nominated Italian short film Le Pupille, as well as live film scores, such as the collaborative film project Katastrofielokuvien loppukohtauksia(Final Scenes of Disaster Films) by the award-winning artist couple Tellervo Kalleinenand Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen, which premiered on an open-air cinema at Kansalaistori in Helsinki to over 11 000 spectators. From this project, the instrumental track Vortex was rearranged and ended up on the album. The album also includes the longest recorded track of Cleaning Women’s career, the almost nine-minute Caput Mortuum.

Washer is out now on vinyl, CD, and digital platforms.

Wigwam’s previously unreleased rare live recording from 1976 out in February via Svart Records

⚫️ In the summer of 1976, Wigwam performed not only in Finland but also in Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Germany. However, the pace slowed down afterward. The early autumn tours planned for European countries were cancelled, and even the replacement shows in Finland had to be postponed due to bassist Måns “Måsse” Groundstroem’s sick leave.

In October 1976 an opening appeared in the schedule for a studio session, during which Jim Pembroke’s third solo album, Corporal Cauliflower’s Mental Function, was recorded. Albums from Wigwam’s deep-pop era, which began in autumn 1974, had already been released, and rehearsals were underway for what would become the Dark Album, released in 1977. It can be said that this concert, recorded for Danish Radio, is a strong representation of the band’s era at the time.

The recording took place in northern Denmark, in a district called Lundtofte in Lyngby. Lundtofte was home to the Danish Technical University (DTU), where a student venue called “Studenterhuset” hosted a one- to two-day music events known as Polyjoint in the 1970’s. The events typically featured Danish bands, but also visiting acts like Wigwam. Most importantly, Danish Radio was sometimes present at these events. Wigwam had performed a studio concert for Danish Radio the previous year, but this particular recording is considered the more energetic of the two. Details have faded with time — for example, the identity of the second act at the concert is unknown. In any case, both guitarist Pekka “Rekku” Rechardt and keyboardist Pedro Hietanen remember the band being in high spirits, in top form, and highly motivated. They had a deal with Virgin Records in their pocket, had gained international touring experience, and the future looked bright.

After returning from Denmark, Wigwam soon entered the studio just after Christmas to begin building the Dark Album. The first version came together quickly, but the release process turned out to be quite complex — but that’s another story.
