Something important to read about Turku Saatanalle Black Metal Festival festival and about black metal festivals in general in a matter of fact.
TURKU SAATANALLE XIII
We apologise for the long silent period regarding the 13th edition of Turku Saatanalle festival. Here's something to give you an insight of what's been going on since Turku Saatanalle XII.
The festival will happen again and it will happen in the very center of our beloved hometown Turku. Some of you have inquired if we will arrange the next edition again at Metsämäki Arena which was a great place and a unique opportunity to arrange our biggest and most successful event in many aspects. However, we were also a bit lucky last time as we already had the financial certainty (to sell more tickets due to our historically fantastic lineup) which made it possible to move the event to a bigger, yet much much more expensive venue. Because:
Due to a cowardly cancel campaign by anonymous internet warriors, certain individuals and even a couple small yet established agencies with their spineless safe space agendas, we didn't want to risk the future of the original venue's owners' businesses. We are not backstabbers. We respect the hard work, support and help of people who understand the concept of Turku Saatanalle. If we had acted the cold heartless way, there might have not existed any venue anymore this year at the same premises where TS XII was originally supposed to take place.
If we hadn't had the possibility to change the location to Metsämäki, we will never know what would have happened. There were times when we truly thought that, what the f**k, let's cancel the whole festival, reveal all the spineless bu****it games which are played behind closed doors and f**k off for good. Go with a bang. It didn't happen and the only reason why it didn't was that we didn't wanna throw away everything just because of pressure from some ignorant moral guards and let down ourselves, the bands and the audience who already had bought the tickets and were waiting for the festival. It was not an option to compromise our integrity.
But no, it will not happen at Metsämäki. Despite our lengthy history, we're still a small player in the (black) metal festival field and our aim is not to grow or become more mainstream, "professional" or whatnot. To arrange a festival with the capacity of Metsämäki Arena would have meant to take a huge step upwards in terms of financial stakes and risks. None of us does event organizing for living and it will always remain that way.
There were a couple new options at which venue we could arrange the next festival, but as the local venue situation has been a bit "lively", so to speak, this year, we have not had a decent possibility to confirm any proper venue so far. But now we have.
In the very near future we will announce the dates for the upcoming 13th edition of Turku Saatanalle. Many bands have also already been confirmed. As said, it will happen in downtown Turku around the same period of time as previous years. There will be something new, something old, but one thing is for sure: there will be no compromise.
Never surrender.
