Since the launch of Australia’s Kava Pilot Program in 2019, cumulative imports have continued to build, with 2025 marking the strongest year on record.
In Q4 2025, Australia imported 50,161 kg of kava, making it the strongest quarter of the year. This represents a 13.9 per cent increase on Q3 and brings total imports for 2025 to 170,309 kg. Cumulative volumes under the Pilot Program have now reached just over 635,000 kg since commercial imports commenced in December 2021.
Q4 strength was driven by a modest uplift in Fiji’s export volumes, alongside the inclusion of Papua New Guinea, which recorded its first shipments of the year. Fiji again supplied the highest volumes and continued to draw from the broadest supplier base, reinforcing its central role in the Australian market. Vanuatu maintained strong momentum across 2025, recording higher annual volumes than Tonga and positioning itself to potentially become Australia’s second-largest Pacific kava supplier if current trends continue. While volumes remain modest, Papua New Guinea’s participation signals renewed exporter readiness and growing confidence in navigating Australia’s commercial import pathways.
