Minister for Information, Climate Change and Environment, Hon. Lynda Tabuya, was featured on the University of Fiji’s Vox Populi radio station to share the Government’s vision for strengthening environmental protection and climate resilience, while encouraging young people to become active leaders in safeguarding Fiji’s future.

During the interview, Minister Tabuya highlighted key national initiatives, including forest landscape restoration, renewable energy, waste reduction, and youth participation in climate action. She also encouraged students to pursue careers in climate change, environmental protection, and marine conservation, emphasising that today’s young people have the knowledge, passion, and ability to drive meaningful change.

Hosted by Suva Central Campus Coordinator and Vox Populi Station Manager Lawrence Singh, the discussion reinforced the University of Fiji’s commitment to providing a platform for national conversations that inspire leadership, innovation, and community engagement.

YOUTH MUST BE AT THE HEART OF FIJI'S CLIMATE FUTURE

Fiji's young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are the catalysts for climate action today.

Speaking during an interview with the University of Fiji's The Vox Populi radio station, Minister for Environment and Climate Change Hon. Lynda Tabuya highlighted the vital role young people play in protecting the environment and shaping Fiji's response to climate change.

She said empowering youth is essential to building a more resilient and sustainable future, encouraging them to be active in environmental advocacy, community action and climate leadership.

"Do not wait for permission to engage or to lead. Bring your innovative ideas, demand measurable results and help shape the solutions our country needs," Hon. Tabuya said.

She also highlighted the Ministry's commitment to creating opportunities for young people to participate in climate action, including Fiji's hosting of the Pacific-led Pre-COP in October and the planned Youth Dialogue, which will provide a platform for young Pacific voices to contribute to regional and global climate discussions.

Minister Tabuya reaffirmed that tackling climate change, biodiversity loss and plastic pollution requires a whole-of-society approach, with young people playing a central role in creating lasting solutions for Fiji and the Pacific.
