๐ข Major Rain and Flood Threat for Fiji: Tropical System Approaching
A major rain threat is developing for Fiji and nearby islands as Tropical Depression TD03F (sometimes referred to as 08P) continues to track southeast towards the group.
Summary of Event
The system, currently located approximately 432 km north-northeast of Port Vila, Vanuatu, is forecast to enter Fiji waters tomorrow, Tuesday. The current trajectory calculates the system to move across the islands or very close by.
Details If there are any impact
Torrential Rainfall: Potential for isolated areas to receive 300mm+ of rain within 24 hours is high.
Widespread Flooding: A Flash Flood Warning is currently in force for the entire Fiji Group. Flooding is highly possible in drainage systems, small streams, low water bridges, roads, and properties in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Highly Prone Cities/Regions: Areas known to be highly susceptible to flash floods due to their low-lying nature include the Western Division (like Lautoka and Nadi) and parts of the Central Division (like Suva), as well as low-lying settlements across the major islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
Strong Winds: Winds are expected to become strong, reaching average speeds of around 50 km/hr with gusts up to 70 km/hr, affecting the northern parts of Vanua Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, and the Lau and Lomaiviti Groups. Strong winds and flooding increase the risk of related accidents.
