Fiji’s Electoral Commission says it is yet to receive formal notification of a vacant seat in Parliament following the death of Minister for Agriculture Vatimi Rayalu, but has already taken preliminary steps to identify a replacement.

Fiji shipping firm Goundar Shipping Limited (GSL) is facing penalties, including fines of up to $1 million and possible imprisonment, after a preliminary investigation found that the company breached multiple environmental and maritime laws following the Lomaiviti Princess II oil spill in Suva Harbour.

The two accused in the Butt Street aggravated robbery case, Sireli Veikoso, 22, and Inise Jossie Vitalina, 27, appear at the Suva Magistrates Court today, charged with one count of aggravated robbery. The incident happened on June 15.

Luke Tagi, playing at French Top 14 side Bayonne, has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series for the Fiji Water Flying Fijians after sustaining an ankle injury.

A Fiji Rugby Union statement advised that Tagi copped the injury during a club game.

The Fijian Drua’s Samu Tawake will replace Tagi for the Tests.

Being a seafarer is more than just a profession, it has become a way of life for many in Fiji.

Speaking at the Day of the Seafarer in Suva today, Assistant Minister for Transport Naisa Tuinaceva commended those who work in this profession.

“Working both locally and international maritime is not just a job, it is a way of life woven into our identity as a large ocean state. Our people serve on international vessels, inter island ferries, fishing fleets and cruise ships keeping our ports busy and their families provided for.”

Mai TV is one of three commercial free to air Television networks operating in Fiji. It currently transmits via the UHF frequency while competitors its other two competitors transmit via VHF. The station also now transmits through the Walesi Digital platform recently launched and developed by the Fijian Government – as the country transitions to Digital Television.

The company began broadcasts in June 2008. We turned 10 on June 16th 2018. It is 100% privately owned and broadcasts to more than 80% of the Fiji group of islands via analog, and has equal coverage of more than 90% to the rest of Fiji via Walesi soon moving to 100% . Mai TV operates its services from its office in Toorak, Suva, Fiji Islands

MAI TV broadcasts local, regional and international content including Sky News, Russia Today, Al Jazeera, TVNZ News, Australian Broadcasting Corporation – as well as Bollywood movies, Japanese Cooking shows, TBN Family movies and the German Bundesliga soccer league. It also shows local Christian evangelical broadcasts – which is a huge captured market audience.
