🤩 🥳 😱 👏 🌞 Things are looking great for auroras, even in mid-latitudes. My area of study is more the Sun but there are some great experts I recommend following. These are their X (Twitter) addresses, but some of them have accounts on other SM, Insta, Facebook, etc.

And, here we go. G4-level geomagnetic storm is in progress. It might increase to a G5 - but either way, it is highly likely to have unaided views of the aurora, after dark. RADIO COMMUNICATORS ON SHORTWAVE AND VHF - this affects propagation. On HF, it depresses the maximum usable frequency on shortwave (by about 35% in this case). On VHF, it may trigger aurora-mode sporadic-Aurora-E propagation. Now it the time to aim your VHF directional antennas northward to catch auroral propagation.

X9 solar flare has occurred 🔥

Strongest detected solar flare of Solar Cycle 25.

A major X9.0 solar flare was just detected around Earth facing sunspot region 3842 at 12:18 UTC (Oct 3). This is the strongest X-Ray event of the current solar cycle. More details to follow regarding a possible CME.

Update : X6.3 @ 22:34 UTC (Feb 22). Bright flare, but a noteworthy CME unlikely.

HIGHEST MONTHLY AVERAGED SUNSPOT NUMBER SINCE SEPTEMBER 2002! The June 2023 SNN was 163.4 the highest value for over 20 years. The CM model is now forecasting a peak for SC25 of just under 200, the CM model at 125 (SC42 was 116)
