Marius DC’s newest single features a collaboration seven years in the making.

On July 7, 2018, Faroese rap legends Swangah played a free concert at Staðið,
a small youth club in the village of Vestmanna. The show went off without a hitch and could have been just another concert in the now 15-year career of the hip-hop duo, were it not for the opener: a 14-year-old doing covers of his favorite American rappers, going by the name Marius DC.

In the seven years since, Marius has grown into one of the Faroe Islands’ most promising and original voices in rap. His lyrical prowess, confidence on the mic, and uniquely Faroese spin on modern hip-hop have earned him a reputation as a torchbearer for the next generation of Faroese music.

In a full-circle moment, the young rapper is now teaming up with Swangah for the first time on wax with the new single Blóð, Sveitti, Tár. The dark, gritty track sees the three rappers looking at the landscape of Faroese rap from different angles but with one thing in common: a shared passion, drive, and love for the craft of rap. While Marius looks back on his beginnings, getting hooked on the bars and beats that have now come to define him, Swangah take it even further back to the early 2010s, rising out of the proverbial ashtrays of Tórshavn and planting the first seeds of the now-bustling Faroese hip-hop scene. Their verses are reflective but raw, telling the stories behind a genre they helped build from the ground up.

While Blóð, Sveitti, Tár (“Blood, Sweat, Tears”) is a novel collaboration between two of the Faroes’ biggest names, it also serves as a love letter to one of hip- hop’s most common themes: the grind. The toil, the hard work that a career in music requires. Behind the aggressive delivery and booming beats, it is clear that these are three men who love the genre they work in, and their combined passion shines through in every line.

For Faroese hip-hop, Blóð, Sveitti, Tár is a benchmark. A reminder that while the scene may be small, its history is large, and its future is certainly in good hands.

“Hart í partý” is a fun and lively dance song about how it’s a party to drink tea and play cards at grandma’s house. The song is in Icelandic with one verse in Faroese.

Listen to Hart í partý here: https://bfan.link/hart-i-party

The inspiration for the song comes from various places. Ingmar particularly tells the story of his grandmother from Skála. She would say, “now we are going to have some tea.” She would put black tea with a strainer and wedge-cut slices of bread on the table. When we had gotten our tea and she had spread a thin layer of powdered sugar on the Skála bread, she would declare, “now we’re partying.”

A glowing electronic pulse lays the foundation for Emberlin. A slow-burning instrumental led by an aching violin and wrapped in textured, swelling layers. Tense yet tender, it unfolds with quiet grandeur, revealing one of the darker and more cinematic corners of Movements I.
