The Hidden Wounds of Colorism: Why Shade Still Shapes Our Worth
Why do we still give value based on the shade of someone’s skin — even within our own communities? Why are darker-skinned girls still told, implicitly or explicitly, that they are “too dark” to be beautiful, to be loved, or to be worthy?
These questions cut deep because they are not abstract theories. They are lived experiences, carried quietly by millions. This is the painful reality of colorism — a prejudice that often hides inside families, friendships, and relationships, where love should be unconditional but sometimes comes with a shade card.
