Two Arrested After Stolen Cows Found in Late Umar Bunyota's Abattoir in Mbale.
Police in Nakaloke, Mbale Northern City Division, have detained two suspects believed to be workers at the late Umar Bunyota's abattoir in Namunsi.
The arrest followed the discovery of the suspects slaughtering a cow stolen from Asadi Guga.
According to Asadi Guga, a resident of Kileka Ward in Nakaloke, Mbale Northern City Division, unknown thieves stole his two cows from his home on Tuesday morning while he was away for morning prayers at the mosque.
Guga's grandsons found the stolen cows at the abattoir after an extensive search.
Kiswa Fazali, the area councilor and a neighbor of the victim, informed the Bugisu intellectual that cattle theft is rampant, citing his recent loss of seven cows with no signs of recovery.
Although one cow was located here, another had been slaughtered and removed. Fazali mentioned the unsettling discovery of some of the stolen cows in the abattoir, previously owned by the late Umar Bunyota and currently managed by his elder brother Yazidi, during their search efforts.
Mr. Were Yahya, the Deputy RCC in Charge of Mbale Northern City Division, confirmed the arrest of two suspects who are workers at late Umar's Abattoir and are detained in Nakaloke police station.
He thanked the residents for their vigilance; the thieves stole their cows, but during the search, the animals were found in the slaughterhouse. Let this be an example for all cattle farmers to keep their animals secure.
Yahya continued to warn cattle dealers against buying unauthorized cows, wondering how they supply meat to Butchers without stamps.
He urged LCs and residents to conduct community meetings and sensitization efforts to combat such crimes in their areas.
"The owner of the Abattoir identified as Yazidi is being said to have bought the cows; we want him to explain how the cows entered and were slaughtered at the facility," He said.
The arrested suspects will be charged
