A phenomenal talent blew into Cannes this week. The award winning film director, Sarah Clift, best known for her multi-award winning short film, ‘La Madre Buena’ – The Good Mother. Infectiously hilarious, the film portrays a Mexican mother, pushed to her limits, by her son’s insistence on a Donald Trump piñata for his birthday present. Clift also talked about the portrayal of women in film. Under no illusions that the road ahead is long – before most of the world can shift from seeing women predominantly from a male perspective – she admits her mission has just gotten started. The new Champions. Brought together by Maureen A Bryan and Laura Jordan Bambach, their aim – “a standalone program during the Cannes International Festival of Creativity”. Supported by leading names from, BBH, Facebook, Google, JWT and others, it is the first event of many for this dynamically charged collaborative outfit; The Voice of a Woman and SheSays (VOWSS). With short film contributions from international female creatives, their message is simple, ‘Women be inspired, be prepared for change and freedom’.
