Sometimes, fitting in feels like the price for connection.

But real connection doesn’t ask us to shrink, translate or edit ourselves. It gives us room to be truly seen.

Lately, I’ve been reminded of what that looks like. I had the honor of being maid of honor at a friend’s wedding in Wisconsin. I celebrated a dear friend’s 60th birthday.Traveled thousands of miles to witness another wedding and made sure to be present when friends were facing a frightening situation with their dog. I made sure I was there when family needed me because something had gone awry or someone was ill.

These moments may seem unrelated, but they share one thing: love expressed through presence.

They reminded me how fortunate I am to be entwined with people who know me, understand me and make space for all of who I am. People with whom I don’t have to fit in because I already belong. And I’m the same for them.

That is the heart of the CULTURS family. Human connection is our foundation. We do this work because having people who truly see you—and allow themselves to be truly seen in return—can change how you move through the world.

That is why the Feel Seen Summit matters so deeply. It is more than a gathering. It is an invitation to find recognition, understanding and real connection among people who understand what it means to have a unique cultural identity.

What happens when you’re told you’re not “enough” of either part of who you are?

For actor Eman Esfandi, the answer was nearly walking away from Hollywood.

The Ahsoka star grew up with an Ecuadorian mother and Persian father, speaking Spanish as his first language. Yet in Hollywood, he says he was told he didn’t look Latino “enough” for Latino roles — while not being considered fully Persian either. And many of the Middle Eastern roles he encountered were stereotypes he didn’t want to perpetuate.

Eventually, the pressure of being asked to fit into someone else’s idea of identity became too much. He stopped auditioning for six months.

Then something shifted.

Music helped Esfandi reconnect with who he was — outside of casting categories and other people’s expectations. And when he returned to acting, his path eventually led to playing Ezra Bridger in the Star Wars universe.

There’s something powerful in that journey: the parts of ourselves the world struggles to categorize may be the very things that make us original.
