Condemning the Abduction and Detention of Seyed Sekandar Hosseini,Afghan Poet and cultural scholar !
Baamdaad -The House of Poetry in Exile strongly condemns the abduction and continued detention of Seyed Sekandar Hosseini, a poet and cultural scholar who according to credible reports has been held by Taliban forces for nearly a week.
The detention of Seyed Sekandar Hosseini is not merely the arrest of a poet; it is an assault on the culture, thought, and collective consciousness of a people for whom poetry is not only an art form but a way of living and a mode of resistance.
To imprison a poet is to sever a community’s bond with dreams, with freedom, and with humanity itself.
By banning poetry and art, enforcing censorship and repression, and abducting and detaining figures such as Seyed Sekandar Hosseini whose life’s work has been devoted to nurturing culture and art the Taliban once again demonstrate their enmity toward history, civilisation and culture and their fundamental incompatibility with human values.
We call upon all cultural and artistic institutions, defenders of freedom of expression, and human rights organizations to respond swiftly and decisively to this unlawful and inhumane act, and to take concrete steps toward the unconditional release of Seyed Sekandar Hosseini.
Baamdaad_ The House of Poetry in Exile stands in solidarity with Hosseini’s family, with Afghanistan’s cultural community, and with all those who continue to suffer from the ongoing wounding of this land’s cultural soul.
