Sad news from the world of cinema. Composer Lalo Schifrin has passed away at the age of 93. Schifrin's best known compositions included the themes from the tv series Mission: Impossible, Mannix, Planet of the Apes, and Starsky and Hutch as well as the scores to the films Dark Intruder (1965), Cool Hand Luke (1967), Bullitt (1968), Eye of the Cat (1969), THX 1138 (1971), Enter the Dragon (1973), The Four Musketeers (1974), Voyage of the Damned (1976), The Eagle Has Landed (1976), Day of the Animals (1977), The Manitou (1978), The Amityville Horror (1979), Amityville II: The Possession (1982), Class of 1984 (1984) and the Rush Hour trilogy (1998–2007). Schifrin was also noted for collaborations with Clint Eastwood from the late 1960s to the 1980s, particularly the Dirty Harry series of films. He composed the Paramount Pictures fanfare used from 1976 to 2004. His final work was the main title theme for the anthology horror film Tales of Halloween (2015). He was a five-time Grammy Award winner; he was nominated for six Academy Awards and four Emmy Awards.

The music world is mourning the loss of one of their own. Walter Scott, who rose to fame as a member of the legendary soul group, The Whispers, has died, this according to New York’s WBLS - FM.

As one of the co-founding members of the act, Scott, along with his twin brother, ‘Scotty’, gave us a string of hits in the late 70’s and early 80’s. One of their signature songs, “And The Beat Goes On,” would later be introduced to a younger audience, when Will Smith sampled it in his hit “Miami”. It also appeared in the video game, “GTA: Vice City”.

The Whispers saw top ten success on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1987, with “Rock Steady.” Both of the previously mentioned songs topped the R&B Chart.

Among his accomplishments, was an induction into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, with The Whispers.

Scott was 81, at the time of his passing. His memory lives on through his music.

Suffisamment rare pour être omis, une vraie belle sortie ce W.E !!!
"Pleasure", cinquième opus en dix ans de ce duo composé de Shawn Lee et Andy Platts, plus connu sous le nom de Young Gun Silver Fox. Après le surprenant "West End Coast" 2015, la confirmation du "A.M Waves" 2018, le controversé "Canyons" 2020 et l'explosif "Ticket To Shangri- La" en 2023, nous sommes confrontés à une synthèse de ce que diffusait les Radios F.M, fin 70, début 80 ! Si je devais choisir un des albums témoins de cette époque, il en ferait partie.
Si je devais avoir une préférence, ce serait ce titre... Enjoy !

Bonsoir ! "Ce n'est pas l'original, mais c'est la version que je préfère"
Ce titre, composé par Mark Gordon et Harry Warren, initialement écrit pour un film, en 1941 et interprété par Glenn Miller et son orchestre, accompagnant un duo de studio, fut commercialisé comme tel, en 1942 et atteignit la 9ème place des Charts
C'est en 1960, avec l'appropriation de l'enveloppante Etta James, que "At Last" devint le standard que nous connaissons tous.
Il existe au minimum une trentaine de versions instrumentales et vocales, Allant de Nat "King" Cole, en passant par Judy Garland, Stevie Wonder, Randy Crawford, Ella Fitzgerald, Céline Dion, Michael Bolton, Aretha Franklin, Beyonce....Etc
J'adore la version d'Etta James, ainsi que celle de Randy Crawford, mais je ne pouvais passer à côté de ce merveilleux arrangement réalisé par Vic Mendoza, pour l'émouvante Joni Mitchell en 2000 ! Enjoy.....

Dans la série: "Ce n'est pas l'original, mais c'est la version que je préfère"

J'ai toujours essayé de privilégier la version originale d'un titre, néanmoins, dans certain cas, je dois me résoudre à l'évidence d'une réinterprétation, sinon novatrice, du moins rafraîchissante.
Dans ce cadre, j'essaierai, dans la mesure du possible, de partager, la genèse d'un titre, ainsi que la version que j'ai préféré.
Aujourd'hui je profite de la nouvelle production du compositeur et immense bassiste Nathan East, accompagné de son fils Noah au piano et de la chanteuse Merry Clayton, concernant une nouvelle version du titre: "Until You Come Back To Me" (That's What I Am Going To Do). Composé par Morris Broadnax, Clarence Paul et Stevie Wonder, créé en 1967 par ce dernier, mais seulement découvert dans une "Anthology" de 1977, ce titre fut révélé avec un grand succès par Aretha Franklin en 1973. Maintes fois repris par des Artistes tels que: Johnny Mathis & Deniece Williams, Marvin Gaye, Bobby Caldwell, Miki Howard, Captain & Tennille, Basia et j'en passe, c'est la version la plus épurée qui me touche le plus et que j'ai choisi de publier.
