Woahhhhh boy. So, if you are not religious and don’t like sappy posts, feel free to skip right along and continue scrolling. However, if you are still here, buckle up. Recently I went on a trip to St. Louis, and woah boy did I get a lot out of it. Over the coarse of a week we worked with many different people and organizations. One of my favorite experiences was the pure JOY I got out of helping others, specifically mowing lawns. Had I been payed to do so I would definitely not have gotten the joy and satisfaction out of it. It reminded me that we are made in God’s creation, thus what makes him happy makes us happy (helping others with no return). wrote a really good explanation of this. But, I also was reminded of something different. We worked with different groups, some of which weren’t Christian, as well as the homeless. Unfortunately, too often the church looks at these people as sinners and condemns them. I just want to remind everyone of Matthew Chapter 9:9-13; “As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him. Later, Matthew invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. But when the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with such scum? ” When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.” Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”” Jesus doesn’t call us to go out and work for other Christians. Jesus calls us to go into the world and spread love to EVERYONE, no matter their past mistakes, their history, or their differences. Please keep this in mind. And, if non of this made any sense, sorry.
