Twenty years ago, before the radio, before the reissue label, before the supervision agency, Secousse started as a party. Beginning at Bus Palladium in Paris in 2006, it quickly moved to the UK when the real deal went down in London at the low lit sweaty basement of NOTTING HILL ARTS CLUB between 2006 and 2010. Every month, our crew made of Alexander AJ Holmes , Muhammad Moяoka Bryce , Will Quiney, myself & Johan Hugo (who were making music together under the Radioclit moniker at the time) and Pharaon Kastro were blending a unique mix of old and contemporary bass rattling black music: from Afrobeat to Afrobeats, Congolese rumba and soukous to coupé décalé and zouglou, UK Funky to Kuduro, Highlife, Funana, Kwaito, Mbalax, Balani, Cumbia, Dancehall, Grime, Soca, early Baile Funk, Bmore club, Dirty South anthems, and countless other local sounds. If those vibes and mixes have become frequent to hear in the club these days, the only place to hear all those sounds combined at the time was at a Secousse party.
Shout out to the man dommy_p , the head of program at Notting Hill Arts Club at the time who granted us newbies a proper residency to prosper, where we had the opportunity to bring guest bands and djs from around the world, including ☥ 𝕄 𝕆 𝕃 𝔸 𝕌 𝔻 𝕀 ☥ , MALUCA , AFRIKAN BOY THE ALCHEMIST , Uproot Andy WOOKIE , Isabel Gonzalez Toro Marina Vello aka Marina Gasolina , Janka Nabay , Nozinja Hlungwani , Chief Boima etc.
Big big up also Côme de Bouchony and Damien poulain on design duties
It was high time the UK crew got together again and celebrated the good old days. Join us in Margate at The Sun Deck this 31st August for an outdoor daytime party till sunset with the O.G. team in full attendance.
