The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to combating irregular migration following the interception of 35 would-be migrants at Balinghore Riverside on 8 September 2026.
The operation was conducted by personnel of the GID’s Farafenni office in collaboration with sister security services. Acting on credible information, the joint team successfully intercepted the individuals, all of whom are Malian nationals, before they could proceed with their intended journey.
During the operation, the authorities also seized a significant quantity of items believed to be connected to the planned movement. These included 85 gallons of fuel, three barrels of fuel, one generator, two Yamaha engines, 35 heavy-duty diesel containers, two life jackets, 46 smartphones, and assorted foodstuffs. The intercepted individuals and the seized items have been taken into custody for further processing in accordance with established procedures.
In a similar operation, fifteen (15) would-be migrants were intercepted at Walymang Lodge, of whom 8 were females and 7 males.
This latest interception underscores the GID’s resolve to strengthen border surveillance, disrupt networks facilitating irregular migration, and prevent the loss of lives associated with unsafe migration routes. The Department remains resolute in safeguarding the country’s borders while promoting safe, orderly, and regular migration.
The GID further calls on the public to support national efforts by providing timely and credible information on suspected irregular migration activities. Through sustained collaboration with sister security services, local communities, and relevant stakeholders, the Department will continue to take decisive action against irregular migration.
