Unpublished shots from our Issue 7 ‘Mistakes’ feature.

We fill each issue of Valet to the brim, literally skirting the limit for weight that the international postal services subject us to.

And so it was a combination of Valet 7 being otherwise chock-a-block with content and the vanity of our editor, pictured here looking less than chic for one very obvious reason, that this series didn’t make it into print.

Unlike the rest of the demigods and demigoddesses here pictured, our efitor sucks a v**e. A cardinal sin in Valet’s worldview and in any worldview of one with a sense of beauty and truth.

In short, a mistake.

Do not make the same one. Do the real thing. If not quite better your lungs (and, let’s be frank, no one knows), it will be of enormous benefit to your soul and the gazes of your onlookers.

P.s. anyone using v**es or wearing sandals will be denied entry to our launch events in London and Paris this and next week.

Sneak. Stalk. Lurk. Loom.

There’s little on this Earth that cannot be done in a fine pair of tassel loafers. Indeed, it is for this reason that in Valet 7, we published a paean to the unfairly neglected, the wontonly besmirched, the lamentably forgotten ornament.

Damn your modernist minimalism; to hell with your unimaginative utilitarian predispositions!

Undo that third button; tousle your hair a trifle and embrace the baroque! We must make the most of those remnants of a time when all was gold and splendour.

Meet friend of the magazine and Issue 7 cover co-star Arthur Boyd.

Arthur’s turn as cover boy was not planned; he simply showed up the night before the shoot, danced with us like a demon, and, when we all emerged next day hungover and deprived of our planned model, heroically filled in with an élan and gusto almost unimaginable in someone with innards so pickled in last night’s festering potations.

Want to be our next cover star?

Come. Drink with us and be merry. The next opportunity to do so is at our London binge on 13th June and again in Paris on 19th June.

Who knows where clinking glasses might lead us this time?

In remembrance of Bill
Hornets, of whose recent death we have just learnt, we revisit the time we stopped by his shop to chat about some of his most treasured and obscure items.

Bill was charming, courteous, and frighteningly knowledgeable; it was no wonder on meeting him that he had managed to build a little world all his own in Kensington Church Walk, where curiosity, charm, and good style are the norm. A bloody belting good innings, Bill. We’ll miss you.

Our feature on Bill was printed in Valet 4.

We at Valet know that even despite our best efforts to highlight all that is true, beautiful, and right in the world, we are limited in our capacity to rid it completely of ugliness.

Nevertheless, this does not stop us from wishing to do so, and nor does it stop us, for therapeutic and symbolic reasons, from expunging an emblem of hideousness in a ritualistic conflagration.

Witness, then, our destruction of that ugliest of all items of dress—uglier still for the fact that otherwise beautiful people insist on wearing it: the sandal.

An effigy for the ages, found in full in the latest issue of Valet, available now and recommended reading for all aristocrats of the soul.

When not ruminating on the beauty of menswear, consuming alcohol, or nurturing our discernment, we at Valet also make films.

This one, for instance, is about friendship put to the test by distance.

And though it was shot only two years ago, already it stands as a testament to a lost past. How the flower of civilisation withers and fades away!

The pink marble restroom is closed to the public; the proprietor of the underwear shop retired; all that remains is that cornerstone of Portuguese civilisation, the soup of the day.

Geri Della Rocca de Candal is the inaugural Hero to His Valet. Geri is a banker, a traveller, and a scholar of Italian renaissance history and art, the owner of equally enviable collections of cords, shoes, umbrellas, pipes, and 15th-century incunabula. He is also simply, a dashed fine chap. He took us through some of his favourite threads and curios at his home in Milan.

Join us to celebrate the long-awaited (by us mostly) launch of Valet issue 7!

We’ll be hosting a do at with beautiful people. Invite your cronies if they can dance.

Valet’s founders will be there, as well as various of our contributors (who are gods and goddesses among mortals).

Saturday 13 June. Be there, and dress to kill.

Thank you to our partners, without whose support this issue would never have got made: , , , , &

What do the founders of Valet do with the blank canvas of the night before them and nothing tying them down?

They adorn their visages with the finest shades by and descend into the nearest karaoke joint, with a few drinks’ worth of roseate hues playing about their cheeks and toothsome tunes on their lips.

— proud partners of Valet issue 7.
