𝗣𝗼𝗽 𝗨𝗽 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗕𝗿𝗟𝗮𝗯 + 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗲́𝘀𝗶𝗹-𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱

What a joy it was to welcome Brazilian director 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝗶́𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗼̃𝗲𝘀 in Paris this last month. As Letícia puts it, she felt at home and could fully dedicate herself to her film project 𝑱𝑼𝑺𝑻 𝑨𝑵𝑶𝑻𝑯𝑬𝑹 𝑴𝑶𝑻𝑯𝑬𝑹.

The residency proved to be valuable, as Letícia benefited from meaningful insights from her mentor, French screenwriter, Claire Maugendre. An intense and meaningful time in Paris, where Letícia could also enjoy the wonders of the French capital, with her 4-year old daughter.

Pop Up Film Residency Projeto Paradiso

We’re delighted to welcome 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁 as she has arrived in Revine, Lago (Italy) to embark on her 3-week residency to develop her latest feature film project 𝙒𝙃𝙄𝙏𝙀 𝙈𝘼𝙎𝙆𝙎. She is hosted by Lago Film Fest Art Director 𝗩𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘁 and mentored by Italian producer and script consultant 𝗘𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗶. She will also benefit from an online mentoring session with South African producer 𝗠𝗺𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼 𝗞𝗮𝘂.

In collaboration with Projeto Paradiso, this residency marks the beginning of an exciting creative journey for Julia!

A throw-back to the time when we welcomed UK-based Brazilian producer Luiza Paiva in Bratislava for her residency, where she was hosted by Slovak filmmaker Ivana Hucíková.

Luiza benefited from a 3-week residency to work on her current and upcoming projects, also meeting with fellow producers Monika Lošťáková, Juli Berkes, or Camille Chanel, to share meaningful insights on film production.

𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗖𝗨𝗧 𝗟𝗔𝗕 𝘅 𝗧𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗠 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗗𝗔, 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻!

As Locarno is about to kick off, we celebrate our collaboration with Telefilm Canada with the upcoming premieres of Sophy Romvari’s 𝗕𝗟𝗨𝗘 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗡 and Eric K. Bouillianne’s 𝗙𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗦 in competition in Filmmakers of the Present at Locarno 78. Both films benefited from First Cut Lab Canada, a lab initiated in 2025 by 𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗢 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺𝘀 and Telefilm Canada and designed to support 2 feature films from Canada in their editing phase.

With 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝘂𝘁 𝗟𝗮𝗯, we aim to provide selected teams a creative framework, both benevolent & challenging, allowing them to consider new perspectives and explore the whole artistic potential of their films. So we couldn’t be prouder to see those two films premiere in Locarno.

Pop Up Film Residency Focus COPRO’ 2025

We were thrilled to host South African director Dian Weys in Bratislava, where he developed his debut feature 𝐁𝐄𝐑𝐆𝐈𝐄𝐒 during a 3-week residency. Dian was mentored by French screenwriter Philippe Barrière and hosted by Slovak filmmaker Ivana Hucíková. Known for shorts like 𝐴𝑐𝑐𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒, 𝐹𝑎𝑟𝑚ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑠𝑒, and 𝐵𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑖𝑒 - which won the Tanit d'Argent at Carthage - his latest, 𝑉𝑢𝑙𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑠, premiered in competition at Cannes 2025.

Focus COPRO’ supports short filmmakers selected by Cannes’ Short Film Corner and Cinéma de Demain as they develop their first features.

A SHORT SUMMER is about an eight-year-old girl vacationing with her grandparents as their marriage crumbles and the conflict in the northern Caucasus spills into everyday Russian life.

Nastia Korkia's Pop Up Film Residency, in cooperation with When East Meets West, took place in Paris in summer 2022 with Benjamin Mirguet as mentor.

Akijo Fujimoto’s LOST LAND will have its world premiere in the Orizzonti Competition at the Venice International Film Festival (La Biennale di Venezia)

We're thrilled to see another First Cut Lab supported film premiere at the Biennale, a well deserved milestone for Akijo’s third feature film about two young Rohingya children as they embark on a perilous journey in the hope of reuniting with their scattered family.

World premiere in competition at the 20th Doc Edge festival for NUMAKAGE PUBLIC POOL.

Shingo Ota’s documentary benefited from First Cut Lab Japan 2024 and will premiere in the Tides of Change Competition all across New Zealand. A perfect way to dive into this powerful documentary about a beloved Tokyo suburban pool that is bound for destruction. Guided by the five stages of death, this deeply human story explores loss not tied to death, but to place, memory, and identity.
