We truly do eat with our eyes! 👀 So, let's make the visual aspect of sitting down to a meal a delectable experience.

It doesn't have to take tons of time or money!

Shana Weisberg from Studio Sensibilité shared with Toastee her top tips for creating a delectable ambiance at home with some simple place settings.

We may be at home for a bit longer, but it doesn't mean we can't add some spice to those little joyful everyday experiences.

We're certainly revamping our everyday dining experience!

Our historical highlight today is Annie Cohen Kopchovsky, better known as Annie Londonderry - the first woman to bicycle around the world! 🚴‍♀️

She is also the favorite episode of Susan Vollenweider of The History Chicks! As Susan recalls:

"She was a woman that few have heard of that did one really remarkable thing in her life: she was the right woman at the right stage of her life at the right moment in time to solo ride a bike around the world. It was one of the most fun conversations we’ve had."

The story behind Londonderry's cycle around the world is as exciting as the achievement itself! 🌎 Through the journey, she proved to be a professional cyclist and a genius marketer and businesswoman with a knack for selling her story.

• Yasmin "Von Banke" Kurth launched her debut full-length album despite the pandemic creating numerous roadblocks
• Stacey Gilbert Sharp put the pedal to the metal to her cycling and fitness passion and opened up a zoom gym, Urockfit
• Jessica Xie stepped up her community work and activism during the pandemic helping the most vulnerable access beneficial services and more
• Hilary Kwan used her time during the pandemic to reconnect with her passions and start her side hustle as an artist, on Instagram
• Jasmine Xie with her company, NovaUniversal China, and partners revived the cinema scene in China after the strict Beijing lockdowns
• Katrina McIntosh fulfilled her dreams and passions by starting her non-profit PWMI - Persons With Mental Illness to create digital safe spaces for those with a mental illness
• Natalya Permyakova launched her life coaching business, Life Startup, to help others live the life they dream of while quarantining in South Korea
• Rebecca Eiermann reignited her sewing interest during the pandemic and shared how to make a cute Christmas stocking at home!
• Megan Lunney shared some tips and tricks to keep the holiday cheer while keeping safe in lockdown

🎉 Today we are celebrating Josephine Baker! 💃🏾

This historical shoutout comes from Beckett Graham from The History Chicks. Out of the dozens of women that they have covered, Josephine Baker is Beckett's favorite.

"Her story really blindsided me, I was very surprised by a lot of it that I didn’t know because I just knew her on the surface."

You may know Josephine Baker for her banana skirt dance performances, but what also surprised us was that Baker was the first black woman to start in a major motion picture, she was a French Resistance spy during WWWII, and she adopted children from around the world creating a rainbow family. Not to mention, she reinvented herself numerous times. 🤩

We spoke with Dr. Akilah Reynolds about mental health and particularly on the mental health of Black women. What we learned is that strength has helped so many women succeed in life, but it also comes with its own costs. 😲

✨ Today we are saluting psychologist and civil rights activist Dr. Mamie Phipps Clark! 🎉

She is a pioneering psychologist who is best known for the doll study she conducted with her husband that was used in the Brown vs Board of Education court case. ⚖️

Dr. Clark and her husband were the first African Americans to obtain doctoral degrees in psychology from Columbia University. In 1946, they opened the Northside Center for Child Development, the first full-time child guidance center offering psychological and casework services to families in the Harlem area.

Much of Dr. Mamie Clark's work focused on the self-consciousness of black children in Arkansas. Her famous doll study originated from her Master's Thesis, "The Development of Consciousness of Self in Negro Pre-School Children."

Her research showed the effects of segregation on children's attitudes towards race and racial self-identification. Children who attended segregated schools tended to choose white dolls over black dolls.

🎉 Today we honor Hollywood actress and inventor, Heddy Lamarr. 🎭🔬

Her work on frequency hopping made our modern world of wireless communication possible! 🤳 By the way, this invention and her work improving aircraft aerodynamics were done during the middle of her career in the middle of WWII!

🎥 She got her start in Hollywood in 1937 after fleeing her husband in Austria, who had ties to the Mussolini and N**i regimes. 🏃‍♀️

Though known at the time as "the most beautiful woman in the world," Lamarr didn't want to be constantly typecasted. So she set off and co-founded her own production studio and starred in her own films. 🎬

Some of her biggest films were made in her studios like Samson and Deliah in 1949 and The Strange Woman in 1946.🎞️
