Toolbox records is a Production & Distribution & Retailer for Tribe, Bass Music, Electro, Hardcore, Jungle, Dub, Techno, Hard Techno, Hardcore, Industrial, Electronica, Dub, Digital Dub and Experimental Music.
The distribution opened in 1998. following my tastes, at the start we were mainly Tribe, Hardcore, Breakcore and Experimental. Settling various labels like Monkey Tool, Toolbox Limited, Peur Bleue, Ptit gris, Rouge De Colere, Destpub, Acid Night and loads of co productions like Rebus, Rock’N F**k, L.Dancemaker, FDB, Galletas Calientes, Krak in Dub Records, some DKP, The YB70, and ... so many actually that even Discogs is uncomplete about this... need to come back here and complete the list !
In 2002 we settled with Sphenoïde records. After a very crazy period with Techno Plus we had to removed and we stayed together until 2006. The big Vinyl crisis when most of the recordshops closed in Paris (and French in general) : remambem hokus Poku, BPM, Rough trade Paris, and many more in Lyon (Eardrum, Dark Fish), Montepellier (Interface 68 Shop, Pinguins records), Nantes (Bass Eyes), Rennes (Switch), Marseille (Smart Import), Kryzalide (Caen), Pandemonium (Toulouse), Evreux (Teknoid), Interface (Grenable), Angers (Audio-Lab), Belfort (Sonic Control), Lille (Modus Operandi, Orléans (Shetan Import) ... and some more like Sphénoide. All closing down the one after the others.
In 2007 we opened the shop in Paris, hiring Georges from Kiosk Eclectic to take care. And so he did : over 10 000 different records showing the brief history of underground electronic music, from the hardest to the most ambientish :)
