A Father & Daughter Vanished on Guadalupe Peak in 2000—13 Years Later Their Cliffside Camp Was Found
In the summer of 2000, a father and his only daughter went to touch the sky. He was a teacher who knew the earth’s secrets, and she was a young artist who wanted to draw its face. They drove west, towards the highest peak in Texas, promising to call from the top. The call never came. They vanished into the heat and rock of the Chihuahuan Desert. For thirteen years, their story was a ghost, a cautionary tale the locals told about the unforgiving mountain. And then, a pair of hikers, miles off any known trail, found something impossible: a tent, shredded by the wind, hanging off the side of a cliff. And inside, two skeletons, huddled together as if they were just sleeping.
