5 Tracks from St. David & 2 Years of REK’D 🧢
Two years of REK’D! What better way to mark the occasion than looking back at the release that started it all: St. David’s 4 DJ’s Only EP.
A masterclass in raw, old-school house, St. David has selected five records that inspired him throughout the creative process.
Swipe to check out his picks and read why they inspired him, and let us know which tracks you’re digging! Some gems in there 💎
1. Todd Terry – I Thought Your Love
If I had to pick one record that best represents the spirit behind the entire 4 DJ’s Only EP, it would be Todd Terry – I Thought Your Love.
Todd Terry has always been one of my biggest inspirations, and this record became the main reference throughout the project. The groove, the drums, the vocal chops and that unmistakable New York house energy influenced all three tracks—Terrone’s Groove, Phonky Beat and Just A Dub.
More than anything, it shaped the way I approached sampling. Chopping small vocal phrases and transforming them into completely new hooks has always been a fundamental part of my production process, and I Thought Your Loveperfectly represents that philosophy. It’s one of those timeless records that still inspires me every time I step into the studio.
2. The Raid – Can You Dig It
Todd Terry’s productions under his The Raid alias have always been another huge inspiration. Can You Dig It became one of the main references behind Phonky Beat. I loved the stripped-back approach, the tough drums and the raw groove. It proved that you don’t need many elements to make an unforgettable house record.
3. Mood II Swing – Move Me (Alternate Mix)
Mood II Swing have always been one of my favourite production teams. Move Me (Alternate Mix) had a big influence on both Terrone’s Groove and Just A Dub. Their records have a beautiful balance between soulful musicality and dancefloor energy, with grooves that feel effortless but incredibly effective. That combination has always inspired the way I build my own tracks.
4. Johnick – Magic (Kenny Dope Remix)
Kenny Dope has always been one of my biggest inspirations, and his remix of Johnick – Magic is one
