Antiyano Progresivo: Musical Experiments from the Former Dutch Caribbean, 1968-1986 is the result of eight years of research, uncovering lost psych, rock, disco and Latin gems from Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, recorded between the late 1960s and the mid-1980s. The vinyl LP and full album are officially out on October 9th 💥

Across the former Dutch Caribbean, a community of musicians created music that crossed genre boundaries. For nearly three decades, they shared stages and creative ideas across the islands, forming a close-knit network shaped by common histories and identities, while rarely receiving wider recognition.

Their recordings were released locally, often in small runs, and many were never properly archived. Antiyano Progresivo is dedicated to these artists, many of whom were well known locally, but whose most adventurous music remained largely unheard.

Superfly Bros - Another Star, the first single from the compilation, is out today on all streaming platforms 🎵A vibrant calypso spin on Stevie Wonder’s classic track.

Rizomagic – Cumbión Planetario is officially out on June 26th 🌎

A cosmic meeting point of cumbia, electronics and the natural world. Created during a residency at La Becque, Switzerland, Bogotá-based duo developed new tuning systems and built instruments from field recordings, weaving birdsongs and soundscapes directly into the music.

Rooted in Colombian traditions and propelled by futurist imagination, Cumbión Planetario opens up a world of rich textures, altered states and unheard possibilities.

A sound they call Psychotropicolombian Futurism 🌴

Kaiso Power: Sound Revolution In Trinidad 1970-1980 🇹🇹

Sensational Roots’ track ‘Calypso Zest’ is featured on the compilation 🎵

In the mid-1970s, the curfews had been lifted and political prisoners were released, but the echoes of Black Power were still felt in the music.

Calypso had moved past simply being the music of Carnival, it was reinvigorated with an urgent new desire for a deeper kind of storytelling that could still rock the dancefloor. Sensational Roots led by Pelham Goddard channelled those core rhythms of the people from Trinidad to the music they created both for live audiences and in studios.

By the 80s, Sensational Roots became Charlie’s Roots, a big-band sound on the Caribbean music scene that launched the career of one of the most prolific and beloved Kaisonians, David Michael Rudder.
