Trons Kapell, Stockholm, Sweden — Gunnar Asplund, 1940.

This waiting room was designed in 1940 — and the bench literally grows out of the wall.

Located at Trons Kapell in Stockholm’s Skogskyrkogården, the space was designed by Swedish architect Gunnar Asplund as part of his final major work.

The curved wooden seating flows directly from the wall paneling, creating an unusually soft and intimate waiting space within the otherwise restrained modernist interior.

This Looks Like A Fortress — Until You Realize It’s A Church.

Kirche am Hohenzollernplatz — Berlin, Germany, 1930–33.

Berlin’s Kirche am Hohenzollernplatz is one of the city’s most striking examples of Brick Expressionism. Built between 1930 and 1933, its concrete structure is wrapped in clinker brick, with deeply fluted walls, narrow vertical windows, and a sharply pointed entrance giving the façade its monumental character.

The plans were submitted under architect Fritz Höger’s name, but Ossip Klarwein, then working in Höger’s office, is now widely recognized as a key — and likely principal — author of the design.

The Veil Covering Her Face is Carved Entirely From Marble.

Created in 1856 by Italian sculptor Giovanni Battista Lombardi, this funerary monument in Brescia’s Cimitero Vantiniano depicts Carlotta Rota, who commissioned the work in memory of her husband, Federico Dossi.

Lombardi carved the life-size mourner with her face visible through a seemingly transparent marble veil, while her right hand reaches toward the tomb's partially open door —turning the threshold itself into part of the scene of grief.

This Geometric Façade is Part of Binghatti Views in Dubai, UAE.

Completed in 2017 in Dubai Silicon Oasis, the 13-story residential building features a repeating system of angled, faceted balconies. The geometry was designed not only to create constantly changing views, but also to provide controlled shade from Dubai’s intense sun.
