On Friday, 12 June, the private view of Bruno Aveillan's latest exhibition, 'SUMO, forces sacrées', took place at the Maison de la culture du Japon in Paris.

The exhibition offers an intimate look into the world of the rikishi (sumo wrestlers). It all began when Nicolas Bary and Bruno Aveillan were granted exceptional access to the prestigious Naruto-beya stable.

Over the course of three days, Aveillan conducted a unique photographic exploration made possible by this unprecedented proximity. Mornings were dedicated to documenting the wrestlers' training, while afternoons focused on portraiture and moments of introspection.

Through 'SUMO, forces sacrées', Bruno Aveillan presents a contemporary and deeply sensitive interpretation of sumo, moving beyond the clichés often associated with it, exploring the delicate tension between raw power and sublime beauty.

You can still discover or rediscover this unique exhibition, on view to the public until 26 September 2026:
