🇫🇷 [musique][nouveautés] Album de la Semaine.
Pour notre deuxième coup de coeur de la semaine, place aux merveilleux gallois de Soft Hearted Scientists avec leur nouvel album "The Phantom Of Canton" (The Hip Replacement, Beast PR) ... Présent sur la scène musicale depuis une vingtaine d'années, le combo emmené par Nathan Hall a créé une oeuvre au psychédélisme aussi lettré que profondément habité ... Ici, l'esprit de Syd Barrett est éternel et la dilatation du temps n'est pas une rhétorique ... Ici, le songwriting s'épanouit en toutes saisons et la musicalité aime à se réinventer le temps de quelques épousailles enchantées ... Ici, la liberté est la meilleure alliée d'un but commun pleinement consenti ... Ici, la respiration n'est jamais tapageuse mais se vit avant tout comme une promesse ... Ici, le chant est une épiphanie aussi discrète que réconciliatrice ... En résumé, dans un monde un tant soit peu développé, Soft Hearted Scientists aurait dû faire maintes fois la une de Pitchfork ... Et pourtant, comme tant d'autres merveilles, ils n'ont jamais eu droit à la moindre ligne ... Des Justes ... Qu'on ne veut surtout pas garder rien que pour nous ... Enjoy !😉.

For our second favorite of the week, we turn to the wonderful Welsh band Soft Hearted Scientists with their new album “The Phantom Of Canton” (The Hip Replacement, Beast PR) ... Active on the music scene for some twenty years, the combo led by Nathan Hall has created a work of psychedelia that is as literate as it is deeply inhabited... Here, the spirit of Syd Barrett is eternal and the dilation of time is not just rhetoric... Here, songwriting flourishes in all seasons and musicality loves to reinvent itself for a few enchanted moments... Here, freedom is the best ally of a fully agreed common goal... Here, breathing is never ostentatious but is experienced above all as a promise... Here, singing is an epiphany as discreet as it is conciliatory... In short, in a slightly more developed world, Soft Hearted Scientists should have made the front page of Pitchfork many times over... And yet, like so many other wonders, they have never been given a single line ... The Righteous... Who we definitely don't want to keep just for ourselves... Enjoy ! 😉.

🇫🇷 [musique][nouveautés] Album de la Semaine.
On continue donc et nous commençons cette semaine par un rattrapage, en l'occurrence le 4ème album de Cold Specks, "Light or The Midnight" (Mute Records) ... Alors qu'il s'agit là d'une des musiciennes fétiches de la programmation du Village Pop, nous avons complètement raté la sortie de cet album en Avril ... Et nous le regrettons intensément ... Et intense est bien le mot qui vient à l'esprit à l'écoute de ces 10 nouvelles chansons ... 8 ans depuis le précédent album et 8 années durant laquelle Ladan Hussein s'est débattue avec de très sérieux problèmes de santé mentale ... On ne sait ce qu'elle pense réellement de la sortie de cet album, le simple mot "Bad" étant son dernier message laissé sur les réseaux sociaux en Avril, mais de notre côté, nous sommes très heureux et reconnaissants de pouvoir écouter le résultat de cette longue et difficile élaboration ... Ce voyage au coeur des méandres de l'âme humaine, qu'il se présente sous formes de ballades dépouillées ou de mid-tempo chamaniques, est totalement bouleversant et il serait grand temps que cette écriture sourcée et pourtant si singulière soit reconnue à sa juste valeur, c'est à dire immense ... Aidée par de prestigieux musiciens, dont Adrian Utley, pour l'accouchement de ce fiévreux opus, Ladan Hussein laisse ici son chant survoler ce monde à la dérive, entre tristesse insondable et espoir indomptable ... Cold Specks n'a jamais eu la "carte", musique trop éloignée de toutes les chapelles, mais pour notre part, on sait déjà avec quels musiciens nous tirerons un jour notre révérence, et Ladan Hussein en sera ... Forcément ... Enjoy ! 😉.

So we continue, and we start this week with a catch-up, namely Cold Specks' fourth album, “Light or The Midnight” (Mute Records) ... Although she is one of the favorite musicians on Le Village Pop program, we completely missed the release of this album in April... And we deeply regret it... And intense is the word that comes to mind when listening to these 10 new songs... Eight years have passed since the previous album, eight years during which Ladan Hussein has struggled with very serious mental health issues... We don't know what she really thinks about the release of this album, the simple word “Bad” being her last message left on social media in April, but for our part, we are very happy and grateful to be able to listen to the result of this long and difficult process... This journey into the depths of the human soul, whether in the form of stripped-down ballads or shamanic mid-tempo tracks, is utterly moving, and it is high time that this well-sourced yet singular writing was recognized for its true value, which is immense... With the help of prestigious musicians, including Adrian Utley, in the creation of this feverish opus, Ladan Hussein lets her voice float over this drifting world, between unfathomable sadness and indomitable hope... Cold Specks never had the “card,” her music being too far removed from all the usual genres, but for our part, we already know which musicians we will one day bow down to, and Ladan Hussein will be among them... 🇫🇷 [musique][nouveautés] Album de la Semaine.
La vie tout en contraste du Village Pop continue son déroulé ... Après les surexposées Wet Leg, place maintenant à quelques trésors cachés, en l'occurrence l'unique album éponyme de Monte Carlo ... Unique, car malheureusement posthume ... Monte Carlo, c'est avant tout Matthew Collins, musicien anglais ayant entre autres fait partie de la galaxie Fujiya & Miyagi et décédé l'année dernière après un cancer foudroyant ... La génèse de ces chansons se situe en 2015/2016, et celles-ci n'avaient pu être complètement enregistrées avant le décès de Matthew Collins ... Quelques-uns de ses amis, et en particulier David Best de F&M, ont décidé depuis de s'atteler à la tâche afin de sortir ces chansons ... Et bonheur, elles se dévoilent là en 12 vignettes à l'équilibre parfait entre pop et electronica ... Cette musique n'est pas contemplative, son coeur bat la chamade et accompagne fébrilement les soubresauts du monde ... Mais tout cela est d'une délicatesse admirable ... Le minimalisme enveloppant qui est ici à l'oeuvre ne ferme jamais les portes, loin de là ... Et l'altérité qui s'y respire est de celles que l'on choisit en toute conscience ... Incarnation de tout cela, le chant de Matthew Collins n'est jamais sur le terrain du spectacle mais la voix pouvant être vecteur des vibrations les plus intimes, il laisse-donc celle-ci décliner son identité dans son entière plénitude ... Et c'est réjouissant de justesse ... On espère que nombreux seront ceux à venir s'abreuver à cette source aussi régénérante qu'apaisante, et on vous y souhaite en éclaireurs ... Enjoy ! 😉.

The contrasting life of Le Village Pop continues... After the overexposed Wet Leg, it's now time for some hidden gems, namely Monte Carlo's unique eponymous album... Unique, because unfortunately posthumous... Monte Carlo is above all Matthew Collins, an English musician who was part of the Fujiya & Miyagi galaxy, among others, and who died last year after a devastating battle with cancer... The genesis of these songs dates back to 2015/2016, and they could not be completely recorded before Matthew Collins' death... Some of his friends, notably David Best from F&M, decided to take on the task of releasing these songs... And fortunately, they are now revealed in 12 vignettes that strike a perfect balance between pop and electronica... This music is not contemplative; its heart beats wildly and feverishly accompanies the upheavals of the world... But all this is done with admirable delicacy... The enveloping minimalism at work here never closes any doors, far from it... And the otherness that permeates it is one that we choose consciously... The embodiment of all this, Matthew Collins' singing is never showy, but as the voice can be a vehicle for the most intimate vibrations, he allows it to express its identity in all its fullness... And it is delightfully accurate... We hope that many will come to drink from this source, which is as regenerating as it is soothing, and we wish you all the best as you explore it... Enjoy ! 😉.

🇫🇷 [musique][nouveautés] Album de la Semaine.
Arrivée en fanfare pour les chaudes soirées estivales du nouvel album de Wet Leg, "moisturizer" (Domino France) ... Et on ne sait si celui-ci fera fureur sur les dance-floor mais il est déjà d'une redoutable efficacité sur des oreilles averties et sur des jambes opérationnelles ... Après leur succès planétaire originel, les 2 musiciennes anglaises fondatrices du groupe n'ont pas l'air d'avoir beaucoup tremblé à l'idée d'affronter le fameux deuxième album, mais on sent une patte "groupe" plus importante ici ... Et c'est sans doute cet esprit "combo" qui permet à cet album de dérouler sans pression la recette déjà mise en avant sur le premier album, riffs tranchants et tournoyants, rythmique sèche et sans fioritures, le tout survolé par un chant à l'expressivité à 360°, capable de véhiculer une sensualité aussi mutine qu'assumée puis de faire sien un détachement aussi souverain que libérateur ... Imparable ... Wet Leg ne révolutionne en rien le rock et la pop music, et on s'en fiche, mais en a intégré profondément l'essence et réussit miraculeusement à nous en donner une version aussi actuelle que pertinente par la grâce d'un songwriting brillant, fier et sincère ... Que demander de plus ? ... Enjoy ! 😉.

Wet Leg's new album, ‘moisturizer’ (Domino Recording Company), has arrived with a bang, just in time for those hot summer evenings... And while we don't know if it will be a hit on the dance floor, it's already proving to be incredibly effective on discerning ears and energetic legs... After their initial global success, the two English musicians who founded the band don't seem to have been too nervous about tackling the dreaded second album, but there's a stronger ‘band’ feel here... And it is undoubtedly this ‘combo’ spirit that allows this album to unfold without pressure, using the formula already highlighted on the first album: sharp, swirling riffs, dry, no-frills rhythms, all topped off by vocals with 360° expressiveness, capable of conveying a sensuality that is as mischievous as it is confident, then embracing a detachment that is as sovereign as it is liberating... Unstoppable... Wet Leg isn't revolutionising rock and pop music, and we don't care, but they have deeply integrated its essence and miraculously manage to give us a version that is as current as it is relevant, thanks to brilliant, proud and sincere songwriting... What more could you ask for? ... Enjoy ! 😉.

"Tout ira bien" ... Entre exorcisme et espoir chevillé au coeur, final tout en douceur et en intensité d'un concert mémorable ce Samedi aux Les Francofolies de La Rochelle ... Et à en juger par l'accueil hautement enthousiaste de spectateurs qui découvraient souvent là son travail, cette soirée en appelle évidemment d'autres très prochainement ... Mille bravos à Mirabelle Gilis et à ses 2 musiciens pour la réussite de cet instant autant fiévreux que suspendu et mille mercis à Gerard Pont et à toute l'équipe des Francos pour l'invitation, l'accueil et le travail accompli ... Au Village Pop, on adore les contrastes, on espère que vous les aimez également ... Et pour vérifier cela, on vous donne donc rendez-vous ce jour avec le nouvel album de Tami Neilson, "Neon Cowgirl" (Outside Music, Fargo Mafia) ... Au cas où vous ne connaitriez pas le travail de cette canadienne, néo-zélandaise d'adoption, autant vous le dire tout de suite, ce n'est pas là que vous allez bercer vos nuits avec quelques comptines lo-fi ... Non, ici, on aime voir les choses en grand, pas par mégalomanie, mais juste parce qu'un souffle de vie comme celui-ci ne se comprime surtout pas, sinon il s'éteint ... L'album débute donc avec un hommage à Roy Orbison aussi grandiose que profondément juste, et croyez-nous ils sont peu nombreux à pouvoir réaliser une gageure pareille ... S'en suit une revisite sans filtres de toutes les musiques populaires américaines portée par un songwriting aussi brillant que redoutablement efficace ... Ici, que ça groove ou que ça pousse la romance, ça ne fait jamais le malin, ça regarde la vie dans ses tremblements droit dans les yeux ... Alors, bien sûr, ça peut parfois déborder ... Humain, trop humain ... Et là où la sincérité ne s'envisage jamais comme un jeu, peu importe les règles toujours fluctuantes du bon goût ... Le talent à l'oeuvre ici transcende les petites chapelles et tant p*s pour ceux qui préfèreront rester à quai, la vie, elle, ne sonne pas toujours 2 fois ... Enjoy ! 😉.

No, here we like to think big, not out of megalomania, but simply because a breath of life like this cannot be compressed, otherwise it will die out... The album begins with a tribute to Roy Orbison that is as grandiose as it is deeply accurate, and believe us, there are few who can pull off such a feat... This is followed by an unfiltered revisiting of all American popular music, carried by songwriting that is as brilliant as it is formidably effective... Here, whether it's groovy or romantic, it never tries to be clever, it looks life's tremors straight in the eye... So, of course, it can sometimes overflow... Human, all too human... And where sincerity is never seen as a game, regardless of the ever-changing rules of good taste... The talent at work here transcends small circles, and too bad for those who prefer to stay on the sidelines, because life doesn't always give you a second chance... Enjoy ! 😉.
