The American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR)'s 2025 Annual Meeting is starting today in Boston!

Our colleague Christophe Sevin (Deputy Director) will present a paper: “Wadi Hasid project : discovering a new Iron Age hilltop site in Oman”.

Since the end of the 19th century, ASOR has been at the forefront of American research efforts in the Near East. To celebrate its 125th anniversary, this year's meeting will feature sessions, workshops, exhibition, roundtable discussions and special events.

La réunion annuelle 2025 de l'American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR) débute aujourd'hui à Boston !

Notre collègue Christophe Sevin (directeur adjoint) présentera une communication intitulée « Projet Wadi Hasid : découverte d'un site de hauteur de l'âge du Fer à Oman ».

Depuis la fin du XIXe siècle, ASOR œuvre pour la recherche américaine au Proche-Orient. Pour célébrer son 125e anniversaire, ce colloque proposera des sessions, des ateliers, une exposition, des tables rondes et des événements spéciaux.

As part of LabCom GeoHeritage's focus on instrumental development, the team is working on creating electric wheels from electric scooter components to facilitate the towing of the radar by electrifying it.

LabCom is the result of a collaboration between the Archéorient laboratory and Eveha International. The aim of LabCom is to develop innovative tools to assess the archaeological and environmental potential of a site.

Dans le cadre de l’axe du développement instrumental du LabCom GeoHeritage, l'équipe travaille à la création de roues électriques à partir d'éléments de trottinettes électriques pour faciliter le tractage du radar en l'électrifiant.

Le LabCom associe le laboratoire Archéorient et le bureau d’études Éveha International dans le but de développer des outils innovants pour évaluer le potentiel archéologique et environnemental d’un site.

We are pleased to be involved in the geophysical survey for the Dadan Archaeological Project.

Our geophysicists, Christelle Sanchez and Chloé Mahieux, are currently exploring various areas of the site to complete the survey objectives.

The first excavation campaign of the new archaeological project dedicated to the ancient site of (the Hegra Archaeological Project) took place this year. The project is set to last severval years, and Eveha International is honoured to be involved.

Our colleague Justine Gaborit Benech is coordinating the excavations in the necropolis and the city. She is studying the road network and has opened her first excavation area in the south-eastern part of the city.

The project is led by Pauline Piraud-Fournet (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Programme Jaussen & Savignac) and Abdullah S. Basonbol (جامعة الملك سعود - King Saud University).

It is funded by The The Royal Commission for AlUla and the française pour le développement d'AlUla - AFALULA.

Cette année a eu lieu la première campagne de fouilles du nouveau projet archéologique consacré au grand site antique de Hégra (Hegra Archaeological Project). Ce projet est appelé à durer plusieurs années et Éveha International a l'honneur d'y être associé.

Notre collègue Justine Gaborit assure la coordination pour les secteurs fouillés dans la nécropole et la ville. Elle s'est engagée dans l'étude du réseau viaire et a ouvert son premier chantier dans la partie sud-est de la ville.

Ce projet est dirigé par Pauline Piraud-Fournet (Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne - Programme Jaussen & Savignac) et Abdallah S. Basonbol King Saud University).

As part of the Hegra Archaeological Project, Quentin Vitale and Antoine Darchambeau carried out a series of geophysical surveys. These tests aimed to identify the most appropriate geophysical methods for the Hegra site. Additional surveys will be conducted next spring.

The project is led by Pauline Piraud-Fournet (University of Paris 1 – Panthéon-Sorbonne, Jaussen & Savignac Programme)and Abdullah S. Basonbol of King Saud University (KSU).

The project is funded by the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) and the Agence française pour le développement d'AlUla (AFALULA).

Although it is a few weeks late, we would like to congratulate our colleague Quentin Drillat on successfully defending his thesis. His work will undoubtedly help develop ways to analyse information from archaeological surveys.

The title of his dissertation is "Spatial Organisation, Fragmentation and Development of City-States in Central Crete (Late Minoan II–Hellenistic Period)" (promotor: Prof. Dr Roald Docter).

Nous sommes extrêmement fiers de la soutenance de thèse de doctorat de notre collègue Quentin Drillat, dont les travaux contribuent à développer des méthodes d'analyse des informations issues des fouilles archéologiques.

Sa thèse de doctorat s'intitulait : « Organisation spatiale, fragmentation et développement des cités-États en Crète centrale (fin de la période minoenne II - période hellénistique) » (directeur de thèse : prof. dr. Roald Docter).

This year, Éveha International participated in the second excavation campaign of the French Archaeological Mission in Libya (MAFL), which resumed its fieldwork in 2024 after a 12-year break due to the security situation.

Loïc Mazou, one of our colleagues, is leading the study of ancient ceramics from the Apollonia and Latrun sites in Cyrenaica.

Vincent Michel, director of the MAFL, is leading this project in collaboration with Mohamed Faloos (director of Antiquities of Libya), Adel Abu Fajra (controller of Antiquities of Cyrenaica) and Talal Louahiri al'Hasi (inspector of Antiquities of Apollonia).

The project is supported by the Excavation Commission of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the French Embassy in Libya.

Cette année, Éveha International a été associé à la seconde campagne de fouilles de la Mission archéologique française en Libye (MAFL) qui a repris ses travaux de terrain en 2024 après 12 ans d’interruption du fait de la situation sécuritaire.

During the last excavation campaign at Kom Abou Billou in September, Sylvain Dhennin (CNRS, UMR 5189 HiSoMA) and his team continued their research in the Roman necropolis and town.

Nicolas Morand analyzed the faunal remains from both the living and burial areas to study ancient dietary and funerary practices at a site on the desert's edge in antiquity.

New soil samples were collected, then floated and sieved to gather small botanical and archaeozoological remains. Mahmoud, who collaborates with Nicolas on several missions in Egypt, expertly managed part of the sample processing, mastering the required protocol.

Lors de la campagne de fouille à Kôm Abou Billou en septembre, Sylvain Dhennin (CNRS, UMR 5189 HiSoMA) et son équipe ont poursuivi leurs recherches dans la nécropole et la ville romaine.

Nicolas Morand a étudié les vestiges fauniques provenant du monde des vivants et des morts afin d’étudier les pratiques alimentaires et funéraires d'un site à la lisière du désert dans l’antiquité.

De nouveaux prélèvements ont été effectués puis flottés et tamisés afin de collecter les petits restes botaniques et archéozoologiques. Mahmoud qui travaille avec Nicolas sur plusieurs missions en Égypte maîtrise le protocole et a pu gérer une partie du traitement des échantillons.

Back from digging in Pegarinhos in Portugal!

Since 2012, Eveha International has supported research at the Trás do Castelo site in Vale de Mir, a unique Roman agricultural settlement (late 1st–3rd century AD) in the Douro Valley, where livestock, grain, textiles and wine were produced. Reoccupied in the 4th century, the site has yielded an abundance of artefacts (ceramics, metals and coins), suggesting the presence of offerings. The 2025 campaign revealed new walls and a metallurgical workshop from the High Empire, as well as a new batch of coins, which were studied by our numismatist, Rodolphe Nicot (Éveha)!

Retour de fouilles à Pegarinhos (Portugal) !

Depuis 2012, Éveha International accompagne les recherches menées sur le site de Trás do Castelo à Vale de Mir, un établissement agricole romain (fin Ier - IIIe s. ap. J.-C.) avec élevage, céréales, textile et production vinicole unique dans la vallée du Douro. Réoccupé au IVe s., le site a livré un mobilier abondant (céramiques, métaux, monnaies), suggérant même des dépôts d'offrandes. La campagne 2025 a ainsi révélé de nouveaux murs et un atelier métallurgique du Haut-Empire, ainsi qu’un nouveau lot de monnaies, étudiées par Rodolphe Nicot (Éveha), notre numismate !

News from the Kom Bahig archaeological mission!

Since 2021, Nicolas Morand (Eveha International, UMR 7209 BioArch, MNHN) has been part of the Kom Bahig archaeological mission (dir. Th. Faucher, A. Simony, CNRS) of the Centre d'études alexandrines (UAR 3134).

This site, located 40 kilometers west of Alexandria, south of Lake Mariout, has yielded remains dating from the Third Intermediate Period to the Roman era.

Nicolas, archaeozoologist, and Aude Simony, ceramologist, are currently collaborating on a publication focusing on the site's oldest levels. They are cross-referencing their findings to better understand the type of occupation in the northern part of the site. In September, they finished studying the finds at the Shallalat archaeological magazine in Alexandria.

À la Commanderie de Jalès (07), une nouvelle intervention de prospection géophysique a été menée cet été !

Fondée au XIIe siècle par les Templiers avant de passer aux mains des Hospitaliers de Saint-Jean de Jérusalem au début du XIVe siècle, cette ancienne commanderie est un témoin exceptionnel du patrimoine médiéval de l'Ardèche. Depuis plusieurs années, elle fait l’objet de recherches approfondies portées par L. d’Agostino (Atelier d'Archéologie Alpine, Ciham).

Récemment, une nouvelle campagne de prospection géophysique des maçonneries a été réalisée par P.-L. Schang (Éveha - GeoHeritage). Elle visait à estimer l'épaisseur du mur du chevet de la chapelle associée à la commanderie.

Ces recherches viendront également nourrir la thèse de P.-L. Schang, menée dans le cadre d’une CIFRE portée par Eveha et réalisée dans le cadre du LabCom Geo-Heritage. Ce laboratoire commun associe Archéorient et le bureau d’études Éveha International dans le but de développer des outils innovants pour évaluer et étudier le potentiel archéologique et l’environnement des sites.
