This show marks the start of a new season, an opportunity for me to share projects I discovered, and sometimes rediscovered, over the summer that are still following me through this change of season.

Merci à toutes celles et ceux qui sont venu·es hier à la MansA - Maison des mondes africains pour cette session d’écoute autour des polyrythmies: des héritages percussifs d’Afrique de l’Ouest aux musiques électroniques contemporaines 🌍

Pendant deux heures, nous avons exploré la manière dont la répétition et la superposition des rythmes traversent les siècles et les continents: des traditions Ewe, Yoruba et Fon aux musiques de l’Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou, de la sanza électronique de Francis Bebey aux synthétiseurs de Wally Badarou, des grooves de Fela et Tony Allen aux machines de Detroit, jusqu’à Theo Parrish et au dialogue entre Jeff Mills, Prabhu Edouard, et Jean Phi Dary au sein de Tomorrow Comes The Harvest.

Une tentative de retracer une histoire de la musique non pas seulement à travers les genres jazz, funk, afrobeat, house, techno, mais à travers le rythme lui-même.

Car les tambours deviennent drum machines. Les instruments varient, mais le principe reste le même! organiser la répétition pour faire bouger les corps, créer du lien et transformer notre perception du temps.
