Following the release of the brilliant documentary « DJ Mehdi - Made in France », we selected our favorite tracks from the legendary producer.
-
DJ Mehdi, a self-taught composer and visionary producer, was the first French artist to bridge two opposing worlds: rap and electro. Thirteen years after his tragic passing, his childhood friend and filmmaker Thibaut de Longeville highlights Mehdi’s pivotal role in the rise of both of these music scenes, which later gained international recognition.

We’re over the moon this month to have a special island curated by the brilliant duo !
Following the release of their much-anticipated album, Hyperdrama, Justice has graciously collected some of the tracks that have inspired them just for us!

The French duo is comprised of Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé ( ), who made an explosive entrance, in the early 2000s, with the now club classic “We Are Your Friends”, a remix of a track by British band Simian. The track was initially created as part of a remixing competition, which the duo lost, but ended up created one of the greatest party anthems of all time.

And thus, the signature Justice sound was born, mixing italo-disco, electro, pop and rock influences together, full of extravagant drama and turning every beat and riff into a punch to the gut and a command for your feet to dance. Their sound was so infectious that they have been created remixes for N.E.R.D., U2, Britney Spears, Lenny Kravitz, Daft Punk, MGMT, Frank Ocean… to name a few.

Almost 20 years later, after gatecrashing into the music scene, Justice returns to us with a new attitude. Where once the relationship between man and machine was in contestant battle of who could be loudest, today we see the dialogue between analogue and digital, the past and the present, the juvenile and the mature.
In Hyperdrama, they guide you through their homage to decades of dance music. Navigating between instances of elegant disco, sizzling electro, thrashing rock, sprinkles of hip-hop, contagious pop, sophisticated R&B, nods to French touch… And their selection reflects this.
All of their influences and what makes Justice feel so familiar, unpredictable and complex can be found on their island.
We are happy to have them back and happy to have them share a little piece of them with us!

The "Kiosque d'Orphée" was in France during the 70's and the 80's a way to press small quantities of records without having a record label.
All you had to do was send in your tapes and choose the number of record copies you'd like to have. With those Private press records,
It was the beginning of the home studio, thanks to the Revox portable tape recorder giving to the artists the luxury of setting no limits:
one-sided tracks, no outside censorship, no artistic director.
