In Memory of William H. Roberts
The Philadelphia Inquirer has just published a moving article about Bill Roberts — co-founder of Le Luth Doré — and his extraordinary library of more than 100,000 books.
Without Bill’s energy, his vision, and his passion for books, music, and above all for the lute, Le Luth Doré would never have been built. From the very beginning, his intellectual qualities and his dedication set a standard of excellence that still guides us today.
The rigor, the care, and the quest for quality at the heart of our Urtext Editions reflect in many ways the ideals Bill carried with him. His curiosity was boundless, and his love for knowledge and art was the foundation upon which much of our project rests.
As the article so beautifully recalls, books are “the very heart and core of ages past… the essence and quintessence of their lives.” Bill’s life embodied this truth. His spirit continues to inspire our work, and his legacy remains inseparable from Le Luth Doré.
