Ils ont commencé à jouer dans les bars miteux de Melbourne en 1982, attirant un public fervent. Avec la sortie de leur premier single emblématique, Nothing Grows in Texas, ils ont été propulsés à la notoriété nationale à la télévision dans l'émission Countdown, la version australienne de Top of the Pops.
