CAN I USE NETFLIX WITH A VPN?
Your Netflix account is global, much like eBay or AmazonSame and you use the same password wherever you are.
Netflix will put you onto the "local" service for where you appear to be. The slight caveat is that if the VPN is detected you can't watch using the cheapest level (ad-supported) plan or watch live events and you will only be able to view programmes for which Netflix have global rights.

If you get the error code E106 or this message, your device or network connects to Netflix through a VPN or proxy service that may hide your internet location. You'll need to turn off your VPN while watching Netflix.

BBC STANDARD DEFINITION switch off

The change over starts tomorrow (24th Jan 2023) with BBC 1 south and BBC1 & 2 NI, other regions will follow over the next few months.
If you have a Standard Definition box you will start to lose access to BBC Local programming and will see an information announcement instead.
DON'T PANIC the BBC will still be broadcasting in SD until March 2024

What boxes are affected?
If your FreeSat/Sky/satellite box connects to the TV with an HDMI cable you'll be fine. If it connects with a scart cable you probably need to upgrade.
FreeSat HD boxes are mostly marked as such. All recording boxes should be OK (I don't remember an SD recorder).
Sky HD boxes are black/charcoal grey and have the control buttons on the top. Others will need to be replaced.
Generic boxes will probably be marked HD.

I can't believe I haven't posted this before:

You can change standard Sky, Sky+ and SkyHD remotes to work other boxes (so long as the remotes are V4 or newer) pressing these button sequences:
1 Press "TV"
2 Press "yellow" and "Select" together until red led flashes twice
3 Press "0"
4 Press "Select" red led will flash twice
5 Prsss "Sky"
In step 3: 0 to change to standard remote, 1 to Sky+ and 2 to HD

I don't often post pics of jobs I've done as the general idea is to make the dish as discrete as possible.
This satellite broadband dish had to go on the chimney to "see" over the next door house.

TOOWAY satellite broadband
(This is the service resold by Sky DSL, older systems from BigBlu and Nordnet and a few other resellers, my information comes from BigBlu's reseller support)

This morning's update is "still working on it" and please leave your modem connected and do not attempt to re-boot or otherwise mess with it.

I spoke to BigBlu's reseller support this morning, their reply was: TooWay are not giving any time scale for resolution but are obviously "working on it"
TooWay are using the term "cyber event" rather than "attack" and are not currently linking it to events in eastern Europe. (Don't shoot the messenger !!)

There's currently a network problem with several transponders, this makes your modem look as tho' it's dead.... No blue lights at all.
TooWay have not committed to any time scale for repairs
This is affecting systems from BigBlue and Nordnet (sorry, I don't know about SkyDSL)
Hopefully your modems will just come back on when service is restored.
I'll try and get an update tomorrow (Friday25/2)
