In conversation with Croatian writer Slobodan Šnajder (born 1948) who became known to the general public with his novel The Repair of the World. His new novel, The Angel of Disappearance, on which he worked for eight years, will be published in October 2024 (Wereld Bibliotheek).
Just before World War II, a girl from the mountains comes to work as a servant in a house in Croatian Zagreb. During the difficult war years, she discovers all about her employers. One ends up in a concentration camp, the next joins the Croatian nationalists and yet another seeks healing in a sanatorium. An ode to the city of Zagreb and its humble heroes.
