🌳 A man insulted a poor shoemaker and walked away without paying a thing. By sunset, he had lost everything he owned, except the shoemaker's slippers.

The shoemaker placed one slipper on the desert road, and the other much further ahead. The traveler mocked the first. When he found the second, he left his camel and all his goods to go back for the one he had scorned. When he returned, his camel was gone.

Be careful who you mock. And be careful what you mock. The small things you laugh at today may be the only things you're left holding tomorrow. 🍃

In Arabic, people still say "he came back with Hunayn's slippers" about anyone who returns empty-handed.

🌳 Some people say sorry when someone else bumps into them. They apologize for asking a question. For taking up space. For needing anything at all.

For many, it started in a house where someone's mood could change without warning, and "sorry" was the fastest way to make the thunder stop.

On high mountains, some trees grow bent by winds that blew for years. Long after the wind stops, they are still leaning.

Try replacing "sorry" with "thank you." Not "sorry I'm late," but "thank you for waiting." 🍃

You are allowed to take up space without asking forgiveness for it.

🌳 A group of scientists wore a mask for just a few minutes. The crows remembered it for years, and taught their children to hate it.

Researchers caught a few crows, banded them and let them go unharmed, while wearing a rubber mask. From then on, anyone wearing that mask was screamed at and chased. Years later, even crows that had never been caught, and young crows born long after, did the same. The memory had been passed on.

People are not so different. The way you treat someone never stays in the room where it happened. It travels. The ones you hurt will tell others. And so will the ones you helped.

You don't get to choose what people remember about you. But every day, you choose what they'll have to remember. 🍃

🌳 A frog wanted to prove she was as big as an ox. She kept trying, until there was nothing left of her to prove anything.

Her children told her they had seen a giant in the meadow. It was only an ox. But she didn't like hearing that anything was bigger than her. So she puffed herself up. "This big?" "Bigger." Again. "This big?" "Much bigger." Her children begged her to stop. She took one last breath. And the pond went silent.

No one asked her to compete with the ox. The only one keeping score was her.

This is how so many people lose themselves. One breath at a time. The bigger house to look successful. The bigger life online to look happy.

🌳 He could have saved his friend's life with a handful of water. Twice, he let it slip through his fingers.

In ancient Ireland, Fionn had a gift: any wounded man who drank water from his hands would be healed. Years earlier, the woman he was meant to marry had run away with Diarmuid, one of his most loyal warriors. Later, they made peace. Or so everyone believed.

On a hunt, a wild boar wounded Diarmuid. He looked up at Fionn: "Bring me water from your hands."

Fionn cupped the water. But walking back, he remembered what he had lost, and opened his fingers. He went back again, and let it fall again. The third time, he ran. But Diarmuid was already gone.

Some people will never push you. They'll just stand there, holding exactly what you need, pretending they're trying, while an old grudge quietly opens their fingers. And afterwards, they'll tell everyone they did their best.

Watch who hurries when you're falling. And watch whose help always arrives just a little too late. 🍃

🌳 A crane saved a wolf's life by putting her head inside his jaws. When she asked for her reward, he told her she had already received it.

A bone was stuck in the wolf's throat. He begged every animal for help, promising a great reward. Most backed away. But a crane stopped. She looked at his teeth, hesitated, then slid her head into his mouth and pulled the bone out.

When she asked for her reward, the wolf laughed: "You put your head in a wolf's mouth and pulled it back out alive. That is your reward. Be grateful I let you keep it."

Some people will never thank you for saving them. Instead, they remind you how much worse they could have treated you, and call their restraint a gift. "You should be grateful I didn't." "You're lucky I stayed."

Not hurting you is not the same as loving you.

Take your head out of their mouth. And don't go back for the reward. 🍃
