Today we mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls by showcasing the results achieved recently across the region and renewing our pledge to strengthen protection and equality for all women and girls 🧡.
🟧 Trauma-informed therapy was piloted in women’s prisons in Albania, helping participants manage trauma and improve their wellbeing.
🟧 The Victim Support Strategy was updated in Montenegro, bringing it closer to international gender equality standards, while judges and prosecutors received specialised gender-sensitive training to strengthen their response to violence.
🟧 A high-level exchange in Türkiye brought together over 70 professionals to improve protection for migrant women and girls.
🟧 Girls’ participation in sports was promoted in Bosnia and Herzegovina, alongside stronger support for LGBTI asylum seekers.
🟧 Awareness materials highlighting gender-specific exploitation in the area of trafficking in human beings were distributed in North Macedonia, including on forced marriages affecting underage girls.
🟧 Schools strengthened gender mainstreaming and discussed digital gender-based violence in Serbia.
🟧 Media safety efforts in Kosovo* highlighted the importance of gender equality and protection of women journalists.
On this day, we reaffirm our shared commitment to a society where every woman and girl lives free from violence 🧡.
