The alien female is thirsty for knowledge. Today, she is taking an interest in the Hypermondes Festival, where the Pulps Puppets were featured in 2023, and whose sixth edition will take place this weekend — September 26–27, 2026 – under the theme “Powers”.
Master Philip takes the opportunity to introduce her to Michael Moorcock, the great British SF author and patron of the festival. Having introduced her to Christianity, he then reads her Moorcock’s novel “Behold the Man”, first published in a shorter version in the British magazine New Worlds SF in September 1966, when Moorcock was also the magazine’s editor.
The novel tells the story of a twentieth-century man who, using a time machine, travels to Palestine in AD 28, hoping to meet Christ. A subject sure to interest both an alien and Master Philip himself, since, as everyone knows, Philip K. Dick’s mystical experiences after 1974 ranged from metaphysical speculation to Christianity.
This issue of New Worlds SF also contains a highly enthusiastic article by writer John Brunner on Dick’s work (“Philip K.Dick is so good, just thinking about it sends shivers down my spine.”). Like Moorcock, Brunner was a great admirer and champion of Dick’s work.
A delightful read for Master Philip then… though he also shares wholeheartedly the Hypermondes team’s concerned disappointment at Michael Moorcock’s cancellation due to health reasons.
