En ce centenaire du mouvement artistique global (architecture, peinture, mobilier…), lumière sur un lieu ayant vécu plusieurs vies depuis sa création en 1624. Chapelle, musée, bibliothèque, salle de musique, caserne, écurie… : la Salle Sthrau de Maubeuge fut presque entièrement détruite en 1914 et reconstruite avec les dommages de guerre perçus. L’ancienne salle des fêtes érigée dans le style Art Déco en 1925 héberge aujourd’hui un pôle culturel ouvert à tous.

In this centenary year of this global artistic movement (architecture, painting, furniture, etc.), we shine a light on a place that has had several lives since its creation in 1624. Chapel, museum, library, music room, barracks, stables...: the Salle Sthrau in Maubeuge was almost entirely destroyed in 1914 and rebuilt with war damages. The former banquet hall, built in the Art Deco style in 1925, now houses a cultural center open to all.

Dégustée en apéritif, entrée ou plat, la quiche lorraine est apparue au 16e siècle dans la région lui donnant son nom (le mot quiche venant lui de l’allemand "Kuchen"). Cette simple mais gourmande tarte est le fruit d’une tradition : utiliser la chaleur tournante des fours à bois pour, après la cuisson du pain, mettre les chutes de celui-ci à cuire dans un moule. Une recette agrémentée de migaine (mélange d’œufs battus et crème fraiche) et de lardons. Enjoyed as an appetizer, starter, or main course, quiche Lorraine first appeared in the 16th century in the region that gave it its name (the word quiche comes from the German word "Kuchen”). This simple but delicious tart is the result of a tradition: using the residual heat of wood-fired ovens to bake bread, then using the leftover scraps to bake in a mold. The recipe is enhanced with migaine (a mixture of beaten eggs and fresh cream) and bacon bits. While other ingredients are sometimes used, such as mustard and grated cheese, below you will find the original recipe, which is best enjoyed hot or warm. Bon appétit!

Improvisée en 1852, la Fête des lumières attire 2 millions de visiteurs tous les 8 décembre. Une date initialement choisie pour inaugurer une statue de la Vierge Marie qui aurait, au 17e siècle, empêché la peste d’envahir la ville. Fanfares dans les rues et feux d'artifice depuis la colline de Fourvière : les festivités étaient prêtes mais la météo incita les autorités religieuses à reporter cet événement fervemment attendu. Les Lyonnais disposèrent alors des bougies et lampions à leurs fenêtres en chantant des cantiques, donnant ainsi naissance à la toute 1ère édition de ce grand rassemblement populaire où des artistes proposent une véritable féérie visuelle dans les sites emblématiques de la ville.

First held in 1852, the Festival of Lights attracts 2 million visitors every December 8. The date was originally chosen to inaugurate a statue of the Virgin Mary, who is said to have prevented the plague from invading the city in the 17th century. With brass bands in the streets and fireworks from Fourvière Hill, the festivities were ready to begin, but the weather prompted religious authorities to postpone this eagerly awaited event. The people of Lyon then placed candles and lanterns in their windows and sang hymns, giving rise to the very first edition of this great popular gathering, where artists offer a truly magical visual spectacle in the city's iconic locations.

En chocolats, confits ou... en vinaigre : les Coquelicots de Nemours se déclinent sous des formes variées et font la réputation de cette jolie ville de Seine-et-Marne depuis le 19e siècle. Créée en 1870 par un confiseur, la pastille à sucer aux vertus antitussives et antiseptiques est à base de coquelicots, la petite fleur rouge immortalisée par Claude Monet dont l’arôme naturel est utilisé dans des sucettes, limonades, guimauves et même spiritueux Mais la recette de cette douceur réputée bonne au goût et pour la gorge reste un secret bien gardé 🤫.

Created in 1870 by a confectioner, these cough-suppressing and antiseptic lozenges are made from poppies, the little red flowers immortalized by Claude Monet, whose natural aroma is used in lollipops, lemonade, marshmallows, and even spirits. But the recipe for this sweet treat, renowned for its taste and throat-soothing properties, remains a closely guarded secret 🤫.

Pendant près de 2 siècles, ses œuvres ont été attribuées à d’autres et son nom est tombé dans l’oubli ! Georges de La Tour était pourtant très reconnu et apprécié au 17e siècle, il reçut même le titre de « peintre ordinaire du roi » lorsqu’il quitta la Moselle et se rendit à Paris pour trouver des mécènes. Redécouvert en 1915, il est depuis considéré comme l’un des plus grands peintres de la période classique, sa savante utilisation du clair-obscur étant notamment à l’honneur au Musée Jacquemart-André depuis quelques jours. Une rétrospective à ne pas louper jusqu’au 26/01/2026.

Yet Georges de La Tour was highly recognized and appreciated in the 17th century, even receiving the title of “painter to the king” when he left Moselle and went to Paris to find patrons. Rediscovered in 1915, he has since been considered one of the greatest painters of the classical period, with his skillful use of chiaroscuro being particularly honored at the Musée Jacquemart-André in recent days. This retrospective is not to be missed and runs until January 26, 2026.

On doit à la maison Dalloyau le gâteau Opéra et des macarons appréciés depuis au moins 1830. Une success story démarrée à Versailles lorsque Louis XIV débaucha Charles Dalloyau, un pâtissier, chocolatier et traiteur alors à la pointe de la recherche culinaire. Après la révolution, pour la bourgeoisie souhaitant festoyer comme les aristocrates à la cour, ses descendants inventèrent la livraison à domicile et ouvrirent la 1ère « maison de gastronomie de Paris » regroupant tous les métiers autour du bien manger.

Située rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré, cette adresse ouverte en 1802 héberge aujourd’hui la plus ancienne boutique Dalloyau dont les gourmands et raffinés produits peuvent aussi s’apprécier dans un chic restaurant de la gare St Lazare.

We owe Dalloyau the Opera cake and its macarons are enjoyed since at least 1830. A success story that began in Versailles when Louis XIV poached Charles Dalloyau, a pastry chef, chocolatier, and caterer who was at the forefront of culinary research at the time. After the revolution, for the bourgeoisie who wanted to feast like the aristocrats at court, his descendants invented home delivery and opened the first “Parisian gourmet food store”, bringing together all the professions involved in fine dining.

Located on Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré, this address, which opened in 1802, is now home to the oldest Dalloyau boutique, whose gourmet and refined products can also be enjoyed in a chic restaurant at the St. Lazare train station.

Si aujourd’hui ses sculptures animalières font la joie des visiteurs du musée d’Orsay ou de La Piscine de Roubaix, François Pompon a été peu reconnu de son vivant. Choix des modèles (hibou, buffle…), grande épuration des formes, références à l’art égyptien et à l’esthétique japonaise : l’ancien tailleur de pierre et chef d’atelier de Rodin ne s’inscrivait pas dans les canons esthétiques du 19e siècle comme l’explique le musée de Saulieu.
Situé dans sa région natale de Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, celui-ci rend un bel hommage à ce précurseur de la sculpture moderne.

Although his animal sculptures are now admired by visitors to the Musée d'Orsay and La Piscine in Roubaix, François Pompon received little recognition during his lifetime. His choice of subjects (owls, buffalo, etc.), highly refined forms, and references to Egyptian art and Japanese aesthetics meant that the former stonemason and workshop manager for Rodin did not fit into the aesthetic norms of the 19th century, as explained by the Saulieu Museum.
Located in his native region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, this site pays tribute to this pioneer of modern sculpture.

On rebondit sur l’actuelle 54e édition du Festival interceltique de Lorient pour évoquer l’historique habit breton. Saviez-vous qu’il diffère selon les origines de celui qui le porte ? Il est en effet composé d'une multitude d'éléments qui, depuis le 19e siècle, sont autant de symboles de reconnaissance sociale et géographique : largeur du velours, longueur des galons, motifs des dentelles, jeux de broderies et de couleurs… Aujourd'hui, même si cette riche tenue n’est plus portée systématiquement dans les mariages, fêtes ou foires, elle reste une caractéristique importante de l'identité bretonne avec, notamment, sa célèbre coiffe bigoudène.

We take advantage of the current 54th edition of the Interceltic Festival of Lorient to discuss the historic Breton costume. Did you know that it differs depending on the origins of the person wearing it? It is composed of a multitude of elements which, since the 19th century, have been symbols of social and geographical recognition: the width of the velvet, the length of the braiding, the lace patterns, the embroidery and colors... Today, even though this rich outfit is no longer worn systematically at weddings, festivals, or fairs, it remains an important feature of Breton identity, particularly with its famous Bigouden headdress.

Avec ses 57 mètres, le Phare des Baleines offre un magnifique panorama de 360 °sur l'île de Ré et ses alentours. Allumé en 1854, il est toujours en activité et reste l’un des plus puissants du littoral français avec ses lampes de 250 watts portant jusqu’à… 50 kms ! Classé monument historique depuis 2012, il intègre un escalier hélicoïdal de 257 marches et cohabite avec une 1ère tour de guet conçue par Vauban au 17e siècle (aujourd’hui un musée sur l’histoire de ces majestueuses sentinelles maritimes). Un site à ne pas louper en Charente-Maritime.

At 57 meters high, the Phare des Baleines lighthouse offers a magnificent 360° view of the Île de Ré and its surroundings. First lit in 1854, it is still in operation today and remains one of the most powerful lighthouses on the French coastline, with its 250-watt lamps shining up to 50 km away! Listed as a historic monument since 2012, it features a spiral staircase with 257 steps and stands alongside a first watchtower designed by Vauban in the 17th century (now a museum on the history of these majestic maritime sentinels). A site not to be missed in Charente-Maritime.
