[Review] Mauvais Sang: La Faune (2025) - mini-review
French band Mauvais Sang are out with the album "La Faune", and this is a production that might be of interest also for fans of progressive rock. In this case due to the varied, eclectic and experimental nature of the landscapes explored here rather than a more direct relation to progressive rock as such. Gentle, floating dreamladen landscapes and sensitive escapades into ambient classical music are part so the territory here, with eruptions into punk as well as post-punk inspired escapades with as well as without noise rock expansions. Gentle side steps into purebred pop music landscapes and darker toned interludes and compositions that include electronic industrial music traces and electronic noise music parts is another aspect of this experience, and the sometime use of textured instruments and textured noises adds a little bit of a sometime post-rock feel to some of these songs too. With a little bit of a French chanson scattering to boot. There are many pop music aspects of this landscape, but it is pop music explored with a bit more of an avant-garde inspired approach and a bit more of an experimental ex*****on. A challenging display of what one might do with pop music when having an expressive mind, an inclusive spirit and a prevalent experimental nature perhaps. An album to seek out by those with a taste for pop music that explore this tradition in a distinctly unconventional and experimental manner.
