Acoustic Routes

Acoustic Routes Acoustic Routes is broadcast on Folk Friday Radio every Friday 11pm 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧time I play pretty much anything "folky" Blues, Acoustic, World, Folk, you name it.

I believe that Folk music is as relevant today as its ever been but in order to remain so it can't forever hark back to a mythical golden age, it also needs to reflect modern life. Preservation of the old traditions is vital but the creation of new traditions to carry forward is equally important. If you are a band/artist & would like me to play your music send CDs/demos to

“The high-energy, hands-in-the-air show was dominated by thumping drum beats and synchronised Bhangra grooves that were impossible to ignore.” – The Barefoot Review.

Final Photos from the 2025 Love Folk Festival: What a Way to Finish the Weekend!

If you can imagine a blend of contemporary alt-folk with the soulful vibes of Van Morrison, the smoothness of Boz Scaggs, the rhythm of Motown, and the power of Gospel, then you’re starting to get a sense of what a Blue Rose Code concert is all about. But what you’ll experience is so much more.

The performance, led by frontman Ross Wilson, was nothing short of mesmerizing. With a passion that borders on the divine, especially during his rendition of Amazing Grace, you couldn’t help but be moved. Songs like Peace In Your Heart and Red Kite carried a sense of raw emotion and spiritual intensity that will stay with you long after the final note.

What an unforgettable way to close out the weekend!

Here is my second set of photos from this year’s Busk Love Folk Stage lineup, featuring Lucy and Hazel, a Q***r Folk duo from Sheffield, who draw upon the Folk tradition to craft their 21st-century storytelling and Veronica Drozdowski, a singer-songwriter from Surrey, who offers music with a maturity that belies her youth. Catch these acts at a venue/festival near you.

One of the things I love about the Love Folk Festival is the Busk Love Folk stage, which takes place in the bar at The Atkinson on Saturday afternoon. The idea behind Busk Love Folk is to give up-and-coming acts an opportunity to perform a 25-minute showcase in a festival environment, adding to their CVs and building towards a full festival appearance. As an added incentive, the best-performing Busk Love Folk act goes on to open both the Friday and Saturday at the following year’s festival. In fact, we had two former Busk Love Folk performers at the main festival this year: Eleanor Dunsdon & Gregor Black and Good Habits. My first set of photos is of this year’s MC and opening performer, Liverpudlian songwriter Rob Clarke, and Southport’s own Simon Howard, who was very ably backed by Sarah Sands on keyboards and Elizabeth Lister on fiddle.

Organised by Sefton Council & curated by Neil King of Fatea Magazine, Love Folk Festival is one of the best small festivals out there & the 2025 edition was probably the best yet. The Friday night concert at The Atkinson in Southport was opened by a duo who stormed the Busk Love Folk stage in 2024, Eleanor Dunsdon & Gregor Black, and headlined by a country folk artist who was new to me, Devon based Alex Hart & her band. Unexpected highlight of the evening had to be Alex’s version of a 2001 hit for Angie Stone, I Wish I Didn’t Miss You Any More
